Had a kid bring his wet, bloody tooth and plop it right on my desk.

C'mon now!

Or the kid that did running knee slide into my office.

C'mon now!

The ones old enough to cover their mouths but choose to cough right in your face instead.

All together: C'mon now!!

Some things just make me shake my head.

I get down right annoyed when i call a for a sick or worse an injured or emergent situation and have to make 6-8 calls and end up leaving messages or get "this phone has a mailbox not set up" or the mailbox is full....

YES THIS!!! I had one come in with a 102 temp this morning, couldn't get hold of mom because the mailbox was full. Finally got an aunt's number from his brother's info at another school and got her to contact mom. By the time he was picked up 2 hours later he was 104.3. Grrrrrrr.....

We have a lot of wealthy families that travel out of the country often at our school. Multiple times this year I've had a kid come in sick and when I say I'm going to call a parent the kid will say "Oh my parents are in Europe/Mexico/other foreign country. My grandma is taking care of me." I look at emergency contacts. No one is listed. The first month of school we had no way to contact parents so the kid skyped his mom from his phone then mom emailed me from her listed email to give me a phone number of a relative.

But we also have fantastic parents who list many emergency contacts and also email several of us to say they'll be out of the country and give the contact info of the person responsible for their children while they're gone.

A fourth graders retainer came loose while eating lunch and she swallowed it. SHE SWALLOWED HER RETAINER!

I called Mom who called the Orthodontist and they said that she was fine to pass it naturally.

Ummmm okay.

It was a smallish retainer that covered 4 teeth but STILL!

Poor girl was freaking out, I don't blame her.

A little nursing humor, I was discussing this with the other school nurse and she said well I hope they give her a new one and not just make her clean that one off! :roflmao:

I would freak out too!

I have nothing especially worthy of "c'mon now"ing about, just I'm 8 months pregnant so I feel exasperated by literally every little thing. Trying my best to remember my students are little and can't be expected to always know what's going on with their own bodies :p

This happened to my own child last night. A little background: Middle kid has depression/anxiety and was hospitalized for suicidal ideation 4 times when she was in 8th and 9th grade. She was having auditory, visual, and tactile hallucinations of people beating her and telling her to kill herself. We got hooked up with proper services and through some really loooong months of trying different anxiety/depression meds, therapy, and sending her for neuropsych testing, it was discovered that she undiagnosed ADHD. Her grades have always and continue to be excellent, and she has never had any behavior issues. ADHD was so far off my radar. You should Google "ADHD iceberg"- it's pretty interesting and it lists some of the "hidden" symptoms of ADHD, of which my daughter had a lot. We started her on ADHD meds, and that was the turning point to her getting better. She has ADHD, she has depression, she has anxiety. We have been dealing with this for years.

She's 18 years old and a senior now, and is starting driver's ed (YAY!!). During the first drivers ed class, they had the students fill out paperwork. On the paperwork, she had to indicate that she has mental health issues. She wrote depression/anxiety, but in typical ADHD fashion, forgot to write ADHD. She went back up to the woman who collected the paperwork, laughing and said "Whoops, I forgot to write I have ADHD!". The woman looked at her with pity and said, "Honey, if you stop telling yourself you have ADHD, you'll be all better."

WHAT?!?! If only we had KNOWN THAT!!!!! We could have saved thousands of dollars on hospital stays, crisis evaluations, medications etc.

That has me seeing red. There is a difference between being ignorant about ADHD and being rude. She has no idea how hard the path your daughter has walked on was to get to the place she is in now.

"Dizzy" from wearing friends glasses all day, this kid has 20/20 vision...also I'm a high school nurse...so that makes it all even better XD

honestly, i don't feel like it came across as harsh. I truly feel for those that work - my husband works, i work, at times i've worked 2 or 3 jobs. But i've always had a back up plan for times when my child was sick.

I get down right annoyed when i call a for a sick or worse an injured or emergent situation and have to make 6-8 calls and end up leaving messages or get "this phone has a mailbox not set up" or the mailbox is full... I don't call because I wanted to discuss the Mets game. I am not calling because I want to ask what your views are on paper or plastic. I am calling because your child is not well. If i do call, i expect that there should be some thought that should have been given to a contingency plan. Not you acting like it's the first time you ever considered that your child may get sick at school. Especially when your child utters the phrase "Mom said if i don't feel well, go see the nurse." C'mon now...

Took the words right out of my mouth Flare!!!!

The kids are doing roller skating in gym. I've given out approximately 45863 ice packs. I'm done.

Mine are doing gymnastics. I have had FIVE kids knee themselves in the eye. Trying to explain this to parents has been fun.

I'm starting a petition for having to approve PE activities via the school nurse first, I will also include a ban on blood drives with no aftercare during school hours, who's signing? XD

Pass States "Pony tail hit her in the eye"

Student is in no distress, no redness in sclera, no tears.

I tell the little one, "You look a-ok, go head back"

Little one: "But our substitute said I needed to go home and see the eye doctor!"

C'mon now.
