i thought this would be a great place for us to ask each other questions and help each other out with concerns, school work etc... during the next year.
please feel free to join if you are starting your lpn program this fall. :balloons:
my name is michelle, i'm 30 and i live in virginia. i'm looking forward to meeting all of you.
For real. I am so disenchanted with it right now. :uhoh21: :chair:I can do the math, (though it is somewhat of a struggle for me.):imbar But I can do it. I sat here last night and did about a million conversions, yay!~ However get to lab today and on the quiz, I again did not finish over half of it and was struggling with what little I did answer. This is a big problem. It could keep me from passing pharmacology. The instructor only gives you about 25-30 min to do 50 problems and my brain just does not want to compute that fast. (that may be the norm, I dunno) I NEVER finish the quizzes with this particular instructor.
However, I am not having any problems in any other classes.
So I've been trying to do some critical thinking as tho why this is happening. Ok on my NET scores it showed that I'm way above average in most areas, with math being the weakest one, but still above average. But one flawed character was that my test taking style is frustrational. Maybe that is where the problem lies. It's not "math" per se that is the root of the problem, it's that I know I'm weak in it and combine that with apparent "frustrational testing skills" and voila, a problem that doth make!:stone
I'm gonna make an appointment with the student success center tomorrow and see if I can get math tutoring and test taking skill help. Because if I can not break this pattern, I'm afraid I will not pass pharmacology. Sorry for the vent. I thought maybe as fellow lpn/lvn clubbers, maybe someone here could relate, have some advice etc.:)
hey girl, are you okay? I haven't been on here for a while, do to all the piles of homework, and hours of studying. But I'm loving it!! So your having troubles with the math. Is it test anxiety? Have you inquired about a mentor? Are mentors are the ADN students, who were LPN students last year. I ho[e everything works out for you, I'll be thinking of you.
Hey, glad you're doing good!:) Well I'm doing a bit better with the math, and yea I do just think it's anxiety cause I can do it, I just don't do well on math tests. Any other test in any other subject I'm fine.
I"m making passing score, no danger of failing or anything, but I'd like to do better. They told me tutoring wouldn't really help since I know how to do it, they said the best think is to just keep practicing until I get my speed up, which is what I've been trying to do along side with the piles of reading...:rotfl:
Keep up the good work on your end!

Good Luck!
I start my school in 2 days and I am just now getting nervous. I have read through almost all of my books and I know I can do it, but looks like it will be a long year! My program is 55 weeks long and is suppose to be the most difficult in the country! :uhoh21:I have taken a lot of prep courses for this program so I hope the effort pays off! I took medical terminology as well as a biology course all within the last 2 years. This give me comfort as many of the functions and terms are still fresh in my head. None the less I still have all of the what if's running through my head. In my package from the program it says if I get less than 80% on my first pharmocology mid-term I can rewrite it. I then have to get 90% or better...if I don't.... :angryfire that's it I am done!! You can't move on, you go home! (big breath) I can do! (I keep telling myself this)
Well I hope that everyone is excitted about the new year!
I hope you find your way!! I use to have test anxiety in Biology. Just do your best, you'll be fine!!
