Clinicals at Overlook!

Hey everyone!

I just found out that I'm being placed for my first Med-Surg clinical at Overlook Hospital for the upcoming semester.

How is it over there?

Any tips on the hospital itself?

I went to Mountainside and we did a lot of rotations at Overlook. Very friendly hospital. Pretty much all staff very interested in teaching. 4 A/B (telemetry) & 10 C/D (respiratory) were my favorites. Got to spend an entire shift in the unit when one of my pts coded on me just after I got report. Brought her back (rt sez to me during cpr "not your first time at this, huh?") and when it was time to transport my instructor said "go with her". Primary rn handed me off along with the pt to the unit & their response was basically "cool, another set of hands". Awesome shift, learned a lot.

So enjoy your time in Overlook and remember: The only dumb question is the one you don't ask.

Thanks for all the posts!!! I just joined on the advice given to me by a senior at school and I am soo glad I did. I also am doing my clinicals at Overlook and actually am in the same class as the other student who posted :). I have heard that it should be a great experience and am really looking forward to it. yes michelle this site is great! any question i ever have, i come here for the answer first LOL .. even before i applied to nursing school i got tips, and dos & donts from this site just by reading other posts .. im on it like everyday! =) and it certainly makes me feel a lot more comfortable and a lot less anxious about nursing school ..

I'm another Mountainside student (Hi Asia!) I did my nursing assistant course clinicals at Overlook and LOVED it! I was on 9 and did a day on 10. A good friend of mine works in L&D there and she loves it as well. Everyone I encountered at Overlook was very friendly and even though the shuttle was a pain, you get basically free lunch!

Enjoy Overlook! I can't wait to get back :)

whos your instructor? I was at overlook for ICU with Mrs. Little, she is who got me interested in ICU, and does she know her stuff.!!!
