Hello! Just wondering what your schools do to bring positivity and fun to the staff. We're working on improving our culture here and I really want to contribute. I used to love doing this stuff in the hospital (birthday cards for everyone to write in, bulletin board of jokes, highlighting recognitions and awards, etc.) What do you/your teachers seem to really appreciate? Thanks in advance!

We do quite a bit here. There is a "sunshine club" that gives out goodies on your birthday, and sends flowers for births/deaths/ilnesses, ect. We are treated to lunches or hold pot lucks on inservice days. On superbowl week, everyone gets a football with a number on it and can win prizes throughout the day. There is also a teacher here who is irish and does contests and stuff on St. patricks day. At least once a month the superintendents wife is bringing goodies into the office to share with staff. I'm probably forgetting something, it seems there is always something going on.
Oh and there is a monthly birthday party with rolls and juice for breakfast.

We have a Sunshine committee - $20 is requested at beginning of year to help fund it. They do a snack cart once a month, we try to have some kind of activity outside of work every other month - some of the things we have done are bowling, frozen yogurt after school, happy hour, painting party place, meet at someones house for cards or dominoes etc, roller skating. They also do a luncheon a couple times a year - our next one is a soup theme for the "souper bowl" - each grade level responsible for bringing a pot of soup and sunshine supplies drinks & desserts.
In the teachers workroom is a monthly themed bulletin board - this months them is showing off our pets, everyone is requested to bring in photo of their pets and write alittle blurb. We have had summer vacation, family, favorite quote themed board in the past.
We also have a "teacher of the month". Nominees are made by the staff and at our monthly staff meeting a name is drawn - the secretary gets some fun info about them and pictures and makes a bulletin board showcasing that staff member. We partnered up with a local restaurant that gives a $25 gift certificate to award the teacher of the month.

I just heard a really neat idea this morning. One of my secretaries has started doing it. She put a "thank you" jar in her office. When someone is particularly thankful for something, they jot it on a note and put it in the jar. If someone is having a difficult day, they can take one out for a little picker-upper.

Hello Everyone! I've loved reading your comments for some time and have finally had time to actually create a log on. Something fun we are doing currently is a "diet bet". There's 19 of us and at $10 a pop it makes for a really nice pot. We are 3 weeks in and combined have already lost over 60 lbs. It's a little something competitive and fun. The caf. ladies have all joined and are making some extra delish food so there's some creative sabotage going on! LOL
Great ideas!!! Thank you!

We, too, have The Sunshine Club.
After that, every group tends to stick with their own group.
So, I stick with you guys.

We have this thing that is ongoing called a "morale pal," it's like a year long secret pal thing. That's all I know about it because I declined to participate (big surprise, right?) but I do get to endure the endless campus emails about, "Thank you MP for the beautiful..." and other examples of campus life enrichment and glee.
I'm with Far; you guys are where it's at.

On Friday's of school breaks we have played dodge ball and musical chairs in the gym. It's hilarious. We send out an all school email to see who wants to participate (usually most of us) create teams and play. We also have a little breakfast afterwards. Everyone brings a dish.
