Maternity and peds are two very different specialties. What order they are taught in school doesn't really matter. Your other question probably can't be answered here as each school has the freedom to set up their curriculum as they wish as long as it meets BON requirements. What may be med/surg 1 at your school may be different than med/surg 1 at another. Or, the school may not even call it med/surg 1. My school called it adults with chronic and acute health issues.
Add me to the list of people who think it's irrelevant what order Peds and Maternity are taught. When I was in school we did Med Surg 1 on its own then Med Surg 2/Maternity then Peds/Psych. I thought Peds and Psych were hard together, not necessarily because the material was hard, but because one day I was with dying children who wanted nothing more than to live and the other, I was with people who were intent on killing themselves.
At my school we take OB, Peds, and advanced pharm together....and its during the summer semester! 😩 I have heard that peds and ob are really hard together and to have to take it during a short semester is really going to be streqssful. You just have to keep your focus and get through it no matter what order the classes are in! Good luck on everything!

So my school changed their curriculum around and is making 2nd semester students (myself) take pediatrics before maternity. So I'd be taking peds with med surg 1 next semester. Would you guys recommend those med surg 1 and pediatrics at the same time? Or should I worry? hehe
Don't know how it is at other schools, but i know it was maternity first before peds. I don't know if it matters or not.
