It's nice to know that I'm not the only person going through the waiting process. We had interviews last week and should know something by week next. I feel pretty good about my chances, but you can never be to sure. I am 41, and have 3 sons ranging in age from 21, 18 and 13. One in college one graduating HS and headed toward college, and one going into the 8th grade. Gladly I have a very supportive husband, who said go for it, so here I am. He was a career military man and I was the housewife who took care of the home and family, so I never worked outside the home until he retired in 1999. I went back to school while working at an elementary school looking at a possible teaching career, but that didn't feel right. While taking biology, my instructor encouraged me to look into nursing, I never thought I had that in me, but he did! Once I began to explore it, and watch Discovery Health: Trauma Life in the ER, and others, I really got excited. It really culminated when I began taking A&P and loved it. I graduated in May with my AA College Transfer Degree, and began A&P in fall of 04, and am currently in A&PII. The only thing I lack besides the Nursing courses is Micro, and I will take that in the fall.

The other girls in my A&P class are just as anxious to hear as I am, we are trying to support one another, and encourage each other along the way. I just hope that my age won't be a hinderance to my being a successful nurse. I would love to hear some encouraging stories from late career seekers, as well as anyone else whod' like to share.

Good luck to everyone waiting, I hope you all get in!

Hey everyone! I am working on my pre reqs right now. I have to get enough points from doing WELL this fall to apply for the '05 class in January. I also have to take the Health Occupancy Aptitude Exam and score well on it. I am scared but I feel this is a challenge I can overcome and succeed at. I'm a single unemployed mom of a 13 year old living in Western NC. We should all keep in touch every quarter/semester to see how we're doing towards our 2007 goal! Maggie

Hi there, I am Suzan and live in Hayesville, small world aye! We've probably seen each other a hundred times. This is March and we are probably both waiting on "the letter". Good luck, I hope you make it in. See ya soon! :chuckle

Hi-

I am 45 yo-mom to 3 (23,21,18) stepmom to 2 (25,27). Have been a mammographer for 24 years and decided I wanted more long term patient contact. I have applied to an LPN program at a local vocational school (where my kids went...can't seem to get away from it)

Took TEAS and did well now just waiting for an interview.

I really hope that I get in. I am very excited about making a career change!

Has anyone gone thru a vocational school PN program??

Glad to be here!

Hi, y'all! I'm Alicia, I'm in Front Royal, Virginia, I'm 18, and I'm starting prerequisites for my R.N. this fall!

The way my university has the nursing degree set up, I'll be finishing in 2008. Seems like a loooong time to wait, but at least my last three years of college will be clinicals and my vacations will be spent working at a nursing home -- so I'll be able to stay fresh.

Looking forward to school! :balloons:

Hi! My name is Kathy, I'm a 32 yr.old SAHM of 4 kids....12, 10(almost 11), 8, and 3. I've finished all my pre-req's and am just waiting to take the NET and a new pre-req I just found out about...Nursing Assistant Skills I. I'll be (hopefully) in Fall '05 program at Hopkinsville Community College, Hopkinsville, KY. We're (DH) is stationed at Ft. Campbell, KY...~45 miles NW of Nashville,TN on the state line. I'm so thankful to finally be embarking on a dream I've had since Kindegarden. Good luck to everyone and I look forward to knowing you better during this exciting time!!

We were stationed in Ft. Campbell as well. Back in 1987-1990. My DH was in 5th SF Group. Love it there.

It's never too late to go into nursing! There is such a need now and it's not going away with the graying population and baby boomlet. Ignore anyone that discriminates against you on age because 1) it shouldn't matter and 2) it's illegal! Know that you are going into a worthy profession that has its perks: great employment opportunities, flexible hours, wide career spectrum and the ability to care for lots of different patients! :-)

There are some of us that already have a bachelor's degree in another field and we are going back to do an accelerated bachleors and in some cases a direct entry BSN/RN to masters to become nurse practitioners! So it is possible and people are doing it! :p

i just sent in my paper work about a week ago, when i called to see how things were going they told me that i would find out by the first week of april, whether i got into the summer program or the fall program. does anyone know of anyone that wasn't excepted? i am just so nervous waiting i wonder how soon i will find out.

if i start in aug then i would graudate in 2007. i am one of the older students, i have waited until my children have grown and out on their own to start up my career. i just hope it's not to late for me. if i am able to start in the summer does anyone know how soon you have to have all your money in? i have been working saving money since i have made the choice to go to deaconess. look forward to talk to others that are going to start soon. i am from washington state is there anyone starting soon that is near here?
