City tech nursing 2017?

Published

Hi, I was wondering how my chances are getting into the nursing program for the spring 2017 semester. I have a 3.5 pre req gpa and A in a&p and a 90 on the teas. I know they mostly

look at gpa which is why I'm so nervous... I heard 3.5 is the cutoff. I got a B in eng comp but I got a 95 on the English portion on the teas so I was hoping that would better my chances. I'm really nervous!!! If anyone is in the program please give me your insight!!!

I went to City Tech. They start their acceptance with the 4.0 students and then go down the list. If you did well on the TEAS that can move you up the list. I would advise that you go to every information meeting (check the bulletin board outside the department office door) and sit near the front. Make an appointment with the head of the department and talk to her about your passion to be a nurse and your willingness to irk towards that goal. If you get in (and honestly, I think you will!) attend the Nutrix club meetings from day one, always say hello to Ms. Lee and use that computer room to write/ print anything out. Never speak ill about any of the professors unless you would say it to their face and in front of the other professors. Get the syllabus in advance (this is why you become friends with Ms. Lee or Mary) and read as much as you can of Unit 1 before the first class. Make friends with the librarians (be polite, don't talk back, pay any fees without arguement) and use the reserved books as much as possible for the books you only need a few chapters from. This program is very hard. The teachers are overworked and the students can be immature. Study hard. Don't gossip. And always remember: they don't teach you. You teach yourself. If you aren't being challenged, you aren't learning. Study meds early, study meds often. You will always need 8 more hours of study time then you think.

Hey I don't think you have anything to worry about.I found out during one of the information sessions that they mostly end at 3.5 gpa so you are good to apply.Deadline is Dec 1st. And wow your tease score is great. Gpa should be fine.Don't sweat it yh.Just apply.

This is very great advice... Thank you so much...

Your GPA and TEAS seem good. But as Char03 mentioned, admittance is in descending order-- from 4.0 downwards. Just keep that faith and hang in there. Honestly tho, getting in is the easiest part, its staying in the program that's really hard. YOu have to be prepared to sacrifice a lot of things in your personal life. Afterall it's the medical field and no one wants to be taken care off by an incompetent Nurse or Physician. I know I don't want an incompetent person playing with my life. 1st sem is the easiest. Semesters get progressively harder and more intense. But most certainly doable. It's never going to be easy. It's not like your A&P or Micro, it's Nursing, it's supposed to be hard. It weeds out ppl who: realize that Nursing isn't for them and drop out or those who dont take this seriously and are kicked out.

One of my biggest word of advise is to keep in touch with upper semester students. It's soooooo important, I can't even stress it enough. We will be a source of a loooootttttt of your help and guidance. We have been thru what you're going thru and we have invaluable resources, information and tips that will help others. After all we evidently must have done something right having reached the 4th sem lol.

The profs can only help so much, the rest 90% are from students in the 2nd,3rd&4th sem students.

Good luck!

I'm applying to the program for the spring 2017 semester as well. My pre req gpa is 3.5, so im nervous about admission too. I took the Teas exam this Friday the 18th. Im still waiting for my results. Did you apply already?

Yes I applied in October, just patiently waiting but this wait is killing me

Did you take math 1190 or 1275.If you took Math 1190, was it a 4 credit class or 3.I ask because it says 4 credits on the application but the class is actually 3 credits so I am a bit confused 😐.

I took Math 1190 it's a 3 credit course. You can take it to get into the program. I believe 1275 is required for the bachelors degree

Ok.Thank you. Then I guess it's a mistake that they put it as a 4credit course on the application.

How did you end up doing on the TEAS? Do you know if it counts very much?

With 3.5 gpa and 90 on the test I think you are in. I have 3.6 gpa but got 66 on the test. I am really worried. I also apply for Spring 2017.
