City Hospitals (HHC) Hiring ?

U.S.A. New York

Published

I'm hearing this from different sources but don't personally know anyone who got hired. I spoke to the recruiter at Harlem and they are not hiring. Lincoln has not called me either. Has anyone heard that any city hospitals are hiring?

Looking for a ray of hope here.

I was called for an interview and met with the nurse recruiter and then the Head nurse and ADON of the unit I was interviewing on the same day. A few weeks later they called to let me know I was hired.

I know several nurses and management personnel within the HHC system that have told me that by the time internet postings on the website are made, the positions have already been filled or they already have people they are strongly considering (by internal applicants and also others who have "in"). They just post them on the website as a formality, because if they didn't it would be illegal. This has been the case since the hiring freeze has been going on.

Your best bet is to get to know a nurse recruiter directly.

Above post is true for most all mid sized to large employers, indeed perhaps all but the smallest business.

In order not to run afoul of various local and federal employment laws and in the hope of avoiding lawsuits, vacany postings are most always listed, but that does not mean the employer does not have their eye on someone already, and or things are going on behind the scenes.

Consider any decent place to work probably has scores of resumes on file sent in by those seeking employment. Add to this current employees whom have indicated they are seeking other positions, or know someone (such as a family member or friend) who can be recommended.

Read somewhere that >50% of all employment spots are filled either via word of mouth or internal search. This is why it is very important to have someone inside whatever place one wishes to work act as a "promoter" for you. Failing that, keep one's name fresh in the mind of whomever makes hiring decisions.

Update: Lincoln finally called me! I don't have a start-date yet but I'm waiting for HR to call me in for a backround check! A 15 month wait!

Hey girls1:

Were you in constant communication with Lincoln for the last 15 months or did they just call you out of the blue? Also do you know which units are hiring? Which unit are you going into? Any info would be appreciated...but 15 months...sheesh...

thnx

I was not in constant communication with them. They called me about 3-6 months after my interview to ask me if I was still interested and I said yes. They informed me that they still were still not allowed to process new applications.

After months had passed, I had pretty much given up on them; especially after speaking to someone last summer who said that after 6 months, all paperwork was null and void and that I would have to reapply. This was someone in human resources though. It was nurse recruitment that called me recently asking if I was interested in a position. But it was for a different position.

may i have the website of HHC

Hey girls1:

sorry to *BUMP* this thread after all this time, but, I just got an offer from Lincoln. The ADON that I interviewed with actually called me. She said that I would have to wait to hear from HR to get the hiring process really started. I just wanted to get an idea of what the process was really like before you actually begin working. Like, how long you waited to hear from HR, how long they took to complete the background checks, how was the med math test...Any info would be appreciated. Anyone with info, feel free to respond.

TIA

PS-How is the ER going?

Congrats on passing the interview! Since they had an immediate need for nurses, I did the physical the day of the interview and HR called me a few days after I was cleared medicallyy. The backround check takes 1-2 days to complete. I interviewed in late January and started March 1. HR called to tell me my background check was good a week before the start date. The orientation is quite thorough so I'm not even in the ER yet! You have 4 weeks of classroom orientation and about 6 weeks of orientation in step down and med-surg floors before the trip down. It is a level one trauma center though and it's always packed when we go to sign in and out. The med tests are not too bad. They are drug calculations and you are allowed to use your own formulas and calculators. We go to the ER on May 17th and we have to go in five days per week until September. I'm sorry about the spacing. I'm on my phone and it's hard to form paragraphs.
