I can't believe schools use this lottery system. I think it's crap! I had a friend with all but one pre req's done and a 4.0 gpa and she didn't get accepted last year and some other girl with a lower gpa and only 2 classes done got in. How is this fair? Thankfully the school changed it's requirements for fall 2009.

Around here (all California community colleges, I believe), you have to have all your prerequisites done in order to even apply, which is a complete pain, because you have to wait at least a semester after finishing your prerequisites to get into a program. I do wish they would allow us to apply with one semester's worth of classes still in progress, but that sounds ridiculous, letting people in with most of their prerequisites still to go.

I don't think the lottery is a bad idea overall, though. The person with a 4.0 isn't inherently more qualified than the person with a 3.5 who was working full time or overcoming other obstacles. In my area there is a mix of lottery, wait list, and merit based programs, and I think that's the best way to go.

Well the lottery was supposed to take place today... 5mins before the projected start time of 7:15a.m a lady walks in and asks.... " anyone in here waiting for the lottery?" I knew right then, something was not right. Computer was down, maintenance wasn't going to be in for a couple hours... They will post results later today... so the wait continues...

I am sorry that they postponed it, Enigma2124. I am awaiting my notification for the 3 schools that I applied to. They are all Lotto (so they say, but I know they are not!) and they have 600-800 applicants for 30-70 slots. I have been applying for 2 years and I have had all my pre-reqs done for 2 years! It really takes a toll on you I know.

Did they say around what time they will be posting results? Hopefully they will in fact still have the lottery today...it's been a long wait. How many times have you applied to CCSF so far?

I don't understand how a "lottery" system works. Do they put names in a bowl and randomly choose. Does anyone know how people are picked through the lottery system?

Medicalnerd: Thanks! Matters beyond my control. I have checked the website and no list up yet... not sure if I am missing something. This is my second time applying... trying to stay hopeful positive.

They did not say exactly what time, she said it would be " a couple hours" if not more... I got the feeling they were telling us to just get lost and wait for the results online or letters... ugh! we were about 10-15 people thats many considering the hour of day.

It's all right there, I was a first time applicant and didn't get in but I already got into CSU Long Beach so it didn't really matter...

:bluecry1: Well guys! I am not the exception to the trend. I also didn't make it into the Lottery for City College. I will not lie, it is not a great feeling. I have to say despite the odds, I felt very positive about it. I felt like I would make it. What a disappointment. I heard that the CCSF Nursing program is really good, the tuition was affordable, and of course I live in SF-location, it would have been perfect! or maybe not what is planned for me?

I am learning that the process is not an easy one. You can have everything and then more... and still not be lucky in this whole process. I browsed the list and found myself trying to find something to critic, but really we don't know. We have to accept it and move on. I have 2 more schools, so I am going to go through this again ugh! ok the other schools are not lottery, is that a good thing?

Cheers :-) I am feeling better already, yeah right! :lol2:

Enigma, I didn't get in either, I have been in the CCSF lottery 3 times and I guess it's time to try another route. Best of luck.

Hi Maggie!

I agree it's time for another route. Wish you the best :-) BTW, did you apply to other schools?

I applied to USF, Chabot and City College Didn't get into any :-( USF I had to email the person to tell me that those who were accepted ALREADY got approved.
