Cinical uniform..love it or hate it?

we went in on thursday for an orientation for school. we were fitted for our clinical uniform. i was pleasantly surprised. our uniforms are a ceil blue scrub that has our school emblem patch! looks just like any other set of scrubs just with a patch! i was happy!! no polos, no button up top, no dress pant type pants..etc!! the only thing i don't like is these scrubs are made huge! people who normally wore a large in any other scrub were in mediums (and even then the were still a bit big) and they are loooonnnnggg! being under 5ft tall, most any pants are long but these were really long. but hey, i can have them hemmed (made friends with the lady who owns a uniform shop in my town and she told me she'd hem them for free for me..as it is, she gives a nice discount to the students in my school!) so we have the ceil blue scrub top with normal scrub bottoms and a lab coat..all in the ceil blue.

so, do you love your clinical uniform or hate it..and why?

We had white scrubs for fundamentals and in our third semester. This semester we had to wear the white scrubs for the first two days of clinicals. Boy I hated those things.

I actually got in trouble first semester because they could see my boxers underneath my white scrubs one day - but I swear I could not find white scrubs that did not show through. And there is no way I'd ever wear whitey tighties!! I ended up buying a few pairs of white boxers but you could still see them through the scrubs. Don't even get me started on the girl's underwear that were always plainly visible.

There is this LPN school in the area (Davenport), and their uniform is very feminine looking (blue vest w/ huge front pockets on a white shirt). The cut of the vest is very dated looking and makes their students look like they just stepped out of the 70's. I feel really bad for the guys that attend that school. I'd take white scrubs anyday over having to wear that getup

ours were white 1st 3 quarters yucky!!!!! blue leadership quarter felt important love them then gave them away to others that could not afford them!!! spread the love!!!!:kiss

We wear navy blue polo shirts with matching navy blue pants with the seam down the middle. Ugly, but not that bad. When I hear all white I know it could be much worse!

I understand I have a hard time finding scrubs small enough too. I think all of the ones that I own are too big. I don't know of any schools that make their students wear dresses anymore. Mine are all purple and we look like big grapes, but they're really pretty good compared to what they could be!!!! Good luck in school.

yikes! I hate it! It wasn't that bad during the first semester..but I made the mistake of getting the elastic waste and tapered leg ones ( instead of the cool mens drawsting ones) and I gained weight from all the stress...so this semester the pants are squeezing belly and I'm probably going to get compartment syndrome....and my lab coat is so tight that I can only button one button..needless to say I'm sure I'll have to make another investment for the second haf of the nursing program...:trout:

We have to wear navy scrub pants and white scrub tops, and we have to put a patch with our school name on the left shoulder. Beyond that, we are free to choose our own pant style/size/etc.

This is the same as mine, I like the freedom too. ~ Diane

We have white polo shirts with our school logo, and then navy elastic waist scrub pants. I really don't like it. It's not comfortable and the white looks dingy after awhile. You can't bleach it or it will fade the logo.

Still, it could be worse...

Ours were a god awful purple too. At the school I started at (in Hawaii) they were white (had to move half way through due to spouse being military) and purple here in Louisiana. I hated them and we all burned them after graduation.

Hate it. My uniform is a 'feathered' puke green button up top with a collar. It is cut in very sharply in the waist. We have see thru white elastic pants that look like parachute pants (even tho they are my size) and a white lab coat which we are only allowed to wear into the hospital but NOT while caring for pt or on the floor, we have to leave them in a breakfroom or lounge to get lost or stolen. We are usually mistaken for candy strippers. We also had to buy our school patches from the book store at a lovely $10 apiece.

Give me any color regular scrubs anyday :yeah:

Really??? I've never heard of a nursing program that didn't require a standard uniform for their students. I wanna go where you go!

We don't have a uniform at Duke either (and I'm ABSN, not MSN). We can wear anything within the Duke Health System policy. The only thing DUSON made us do was buy white shoes - which I really have no right to complain about. At least I can wear them again (although I'm buying periwinkle blue Danskos as soon as I can wear them) and I didn't get stuck buying a bunch of oddly colored (or WHITE) scrubs that I'll want to burn as soon as I've graduated.

The only other "standard" we have is our lab coat, which is white with the school patch on our right shoulder. But if we're hot on the floor, we don't have to wear it (and our floors are HOT).

We have STUDENT NURSE in white block capital letters on a Duke blue background on our hospital badges, and being a teaching facility pretty much everyone reads your tag as they're talking to you. Doctors ask us if we're the most recent person to see the patient, get information from us, and we get the primary RNs if there are questions we can't answer.

So back to the question - I love my clinical uniform, to say the least, but I know how lucky I am to have the privilege of wearing "regular" scrubs. I feel especially sorry for those saddled with some ridiculous color (like the fire engine red one school around here has the students wearing) or WHITE.

We have to wear navy scrub pants and white scrub tops, and we have to put a patch with our school name on the left shoulder. Beyond that, we are free to choose our own pant style/size/etc. I am a big fan of my flared scrub pants and plan to keep them after I graduate. Not so fond of the white shirts, though. Too hard to keep clean.

I love scrubs, though. It's like wearing pajamas to work. I told my husband that I want to buy a couple of extra pairs of scrub pants to wear on weekends. I don't think he understands that I was serious.

I own four pairs of scrub pants that I WEAR. And I mean WEAR - as in with sweaters to class and decent looking tops to do errands on the weekends. Several of us in class have taken to wearing them - they look decent and don't have to be ironed. They actually save a lot of time!

I bought them cheapie cheapie at Wal-Mart for something like ten bucks apiece. I also got a brand-new looking pair at a thrift store for two dollars. I think they'd been worn twice.

Specializes in Case mgmt., rehab, (CRRN), LTC & psych.

I hated my clinical uniforms, as the white pants were immensely difficult to keep clean.
