Hi all!
My family has been bugging me to get a Christmas list sent out to them since the beginning of October and I don't need/want much of anything! So I was thinking of asking for some nursing "stuff" that would be of help to me in the future.
Do you have any suggestions of books, flash cards, cds, etc. that would be wise to get? I'm only 2 years into nursing school, so NCLEX-RN book ideas or any clinical note card ideas would be helpful.
Thanks in advance for helping me fill up my Christmas list.

So, I don't know if I understand correctly. You said you're 2 years into Nursing School (that would be just about finished). Maybe you're 2 years into a BSN program, but haven't started actual Nursing School yet?
In any case, depending on where you are in your program there are quite a few things to get. I did the same last year for Christmas.
I got:
stethoscope (Littmann SE II) with my name put on it
hemostats
bandage scissors
penlight (reusable with pupil sizes)
little 'pocket' thing to organize the scrub pockets
stetho holster (if it works for you)
white closed toe leather shoes (danskos for me)
scrubs with a cute cut in the color they have to be for my school
PDA
Skyscape Constellation
$$$ towards books
A lot of these things may seem like piddly little things, but the price sure does add up!
Good luck to you!

ooooooooh my favorite thing has been my PDA! I have the Davis drug book on it, and I use it at clinicals CONSTANTLY! It saves me so much time. My PDA is on my phone. Any phone that carries Windows can have nursing books downloaded. They sale PDA's by themselves too, but they're darned expensive. Good luck!!

I have the Saunders NCLEX-RN 4th edition book, it has been helpful in studying for exams. If one is recommended by a professor, buy that one...mine take exam questions from the book that was recommended, so it is extra helpful. If one is not recommended, the Saunders book is a good one since it comes with a cd-rom. Good Luck with everything!
Yes, sorry I wasn't specific. I'm a sophomore in a BSN program, we just started clinicals this year. Your ideas are helpful, thanks!!

How about gift certificates to a spa day? Massage, Facial, relaxation. I do not want school stuff for Xmas, that is my time to forget I am even IN school haha! (We have about a month off during the holidays)

Saunders 4th edition comprehensive review is good, I just got it and it has been very helpful. Any necessities for uniforms and equipment are also nice to recieve because cost does add up fast. PDAs are also very useful, get one with a fair amount of memory as mine won't fit both Davis and Tabers on it . If you do get a PDA skyscape.com has a great deal on a package for nurses with taber's, Davis, a lab value reference and a couple other things, check it out.
Besides necessities a gift certificate for a treat for yourself is a good idea...massages could be very beneficial after a tough clinical day.

oooohhhh....did someone say caffeine?
How about lots of bags of starbucks french roast, already ground? New travel mugs? Gift certificates to local java house? Chocolate covered espresso beans???
And then, to top it all off...Tylenol PM (warehouse club size)...because we all need a good night's sleep before an exam!

love this thread...this was exactly my idea! but my bday is next week so i was kinda thinking sooner than later cause i really need a drug book because i hate my med deck it takes for ever to look up drugs! I also want a really cute id badge clip i found that is covered in cloth and you can get your initial on it really cute! and i went to a expo last week at our state convention and one had out was really neat it was a little cover that goes on your steth so its not cold but you can only use it for a week to prevent bacteria growth
