Ok, what is the most silly Christmas gift a doctor has gotten your unit? I remember back in the 80's there were always lots of food gifts. We'd be stuffed with candy, popcorn, cookies... heck we even had a doc bring in Olive Garden salads for everyone. Times have really changed. Today was the kicker. One of our top docs had a huge shopping bag and was giving out boxes of truffles to people like the charge nurses, PT and the unit pharmacists. Then he hands me a box and a card addressed to all unit nursing staff and asks me to be in charge of it. When he left, I opened the box and there were 4 large truffles in it........ we have at least 50 staff that work all three shifts. How in the heck am I supposed to divide that out? With a razor blade?

I hardly ever post, but I had the image of a nurse standing over a tray of 4 truffles, razor blade in hand, dividing the goods for everyone. Too funny.

doc makes $400,000 gives 28 teabags to 50 nurses =1.78 teabags/nurse
instead of a razor blade maybe everyone just gets one lick

Big decorative can o'stale popcorn.
Those HUGE tins of funky (and not in a good way) cookies that you get for $2.69.
Then they come in like a horde of locusts and STEAL the fabulous goodies that we make- well, try to anyway- since we changed the combination on the break room lock! :icon_twisted:

We've always gotten very nice gifts from our docs. Each shift gets its own gift.
Come to rural nursing . . . . lots of bene's. :balloons:

I worked with a great intensivist in OKC. He & his wife would make tons of homemade cookies and deliver the tins to the hospital. Each shift on every one of his units would get a tin of cookies. They were awesome!
This is the same guy that loved dressing up (he & his staff) for rounds on Halloween...

I have to agree with stevielynn. We have gotten cookie baskets, chocolate, meat trays with all the sandwich fixings, more chocolate, flavored coffees, more chocolate, and one of our ED docs brought each ED nurse, supervisor, and clerk a bottle or Amaretto. Tomorrow, our doc will bring enough breakfast for everybody working in the hospital. I love rural nursing. We are all very grateful for our docs.
Do you work where I work?
