Myers-Brigg personality test....

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/JTypes2.asp

Hi Everyone..I thought it would be fun if we took the Myers-Brigg personality test and shared with everyone what our specialty is or what we hope to do (if not yet a nurse or want to change jobs). If you're confused maybe this can help. For example...as an INFP (introverted, intuitive, feeling, peceiving) I would be more suited to work in mental health, public health or oncology. I would not work out so well in the ER, OR or medical surgical. I knew all this but the description just makes me more confident that my intuition about myself was probably right on. HERE'S ANOTHER INTERESTING LINK TO CHECK OUT INFO ABOUT YOUR TYPE!!!! :)

I think it helps to get some insight to your natural temparament and to keep it in mind in choosing your work setting. I know it's not the end all and be all but it's a tool that can be used and it could be helpful. I hope others find this at least a little hepful.

I posted this before but it was moved to the breakroom so maybe this time it wll get a better response. I love this forum..you guys are great!

the original poster, i'm wondering how did you figure out what nursing speciality you're best suited for?? does the test tell you in the results.. or are you just saying from experience?? i've always wanted to work in either oncology or psychiatry.. and i just want to know if the test would back up those intuitive choices..

enfj, any recommendations? :)

i just took the test and i scored infj. but i have taken the really short version that asks 4 questions and i have scored isfj. both are me exactly. which makes sense then that my "n" was 50% lol, so there ya go, that's how i can be both! i really enjoyed this, i still don't know which part of nursing i should go into. i would like to work somewhere in the realm of ob and pediatrics, but i suppose i'll find out later on which is the best fit =)

isfp/infp

i find this thread absolutely fascinating! i'm very into the mbti and other forms of personality testing.

my first myers-briggs test was given by a career counselor a couple years ago, and was scored at their career counseling office. so, i guess it was professionally done. my result was isfp, and when i read their isfp profiles, it fit me exactly!

i have taken the online humanmetrics test, and also got isfp.

with both tests, my lowest score/preference was s for sensing. i am very introverted, so i get a high i score. i definitely prefer feeling and perceiving, so i also get high f and high p.

a couple times, with various online mbti personality tests, my result was infp. it appears i'm kinda 50/50 with the sensing versus intuition. i have read infp profiles, and i seem to fit the profile.

so, i relate to both isfps and infps and identify myself as both.

i have been stuggling since 2004 to find my niche in nursing and struggling to choose the right nursing specialty for me. every nursing job hasn't worked out in the end. i can't seem to find a nursing job where i belong.

i started out in critical care, in the ccu (coronary care unit). next tried a medical/cardiology telemetry floor in the same hospital. next i tried pacu (recovery room) in an outpatient same day surgery center. most recently i tried hospice, as a home hospice nurse.

i would love to find other isfp nurses or infp nurses who have found the right job or specialty for them.

I too, have tested as an INFP. I have had a strong interest in MBTI/typology. I have been working in private duty for most of my nursing career (which is short) and have enjoyed it so far. Would LOVE to get into psych, behavioral health, or community health. Still trying to find the best way to break in. If any of you are interested there is an "INFP" forum (all types are welcome) called: infpglobalchatter.com (just google it if it doesn't load). I have read a few posts on there about nurses who are also INFP's. :)

I've always been interested in this type of stuff! =) I took the Humanmetrics test awhile back and scored "INFJ" twice, but then a few months later took a similar test on Facebook and got "INFP". . .twice. I have no doubt about the first three letters, but I always had trouble deciding between "J" and "P". I didn't think it possible to be both! So I did further research and read personality descriptions in the books "Do what You Are" and "The Pathfinder." It was then that I realized I was more of an "INFP." Your post further confirmed my personality type because whenever people ask me what specialties I am interested in, I always tell them "Psych and Oncology"!

I graduated this year from nursing school (Class of '09!!), but I struggled with my career decision early on because I didn't want to go to ICU, ER, or Med-Surg like everyone else. I thought I didn't belong in nursing...later on I realized there is a place for everyone. We INFP's are rare, and it's nice to know that I'm not the only INFP in the nursing field :D

Hi,

I am an INFJ, I have took a Myers-Briggs test about 5yrs ago and was a borderline extroverted ENFJ. At this point, I am probably more introverted. I currently work, on a Neurosciences (Neurology/Neurosurgery) floor. I have previously had ICU expereince in school (loved it! the complexity, and intensity, 1:1 was great) and I have an interest in Emergency nursing with a tiny bit of experience (I like the adrenaline rush and trying to save the level 1 Trauma.) But I have only been an RN for 1 1/2 yrs, and am still trying to find certainty in my niche. I really am getting tired of the floor, and would like to specialize. I feel the floor will burn me out, and I have on many occasions considered a totally career change: like becoming an elementary school teacher.

I don't like the pt. juggling on the floor with a very heavy assignment, I sometimes feel that I cannot give them the care that I would expect/want to, and some families are so demanding/mean, very nonappreciate and want everything NOW! And you may have to put up with them for awhile....making feel like I am back in my waitressing days. Which I got really sick of fast, that's why I went to nursing school. Ironic.

So I am actually contemplating OR nursing, probably the opposite of a counsellor idealist. But maybe I would make a good mediator for the strong personalities in the OR:) I'm still giving it time. Other then L & D, where are all the INFJs?

Hello,

I love MBTI! I'm an INFJ as well. However, a couple of times when testing in my work mindset, I've tested as an INTJ. But, I'm definitely INFJ at the core. :)

I'll soon be starting my nursing career in the Cardiothoracic SICU. I desired ICU prior to starting nursing school and thoroughly enjoyed my time in the ICU while in school. Hope that will continue while working as an RN. :)

INFP... And honestly, almost ALL Nursing Jobs do not match personality type. Seriously NONE. My extreme "intuitive" and strong "perceiving" parts make me dislike the routine practicality in nursing. I love patient interaction but I honestly don't like hand-on routine stuff.

The only thing that can be a potential match is psychiatry.

I think where I would fit most is psych nursing, not as staff, but possibly as an advanced practice nursing. But regardless, I think psych RN is probably a good match for me than other personality type.

Ironically, now I am in pharmacy school. Pharmacy jobs are even more structured!! I am hoping to get into teaching or specialized in psychiatric pharmacy so it can be as close to my INFP match as possible.

I am still thinking about changing my path to psych CNS or psychology................. anyway... got to back to studying for final on Monday.. and then I can think about my future later on.

My personality type is ENFJ. I currently work in a nephrology and telemetry unit, but I hope to eventually transfer to something critical care...probably the ED, NICU or PICU(or at least these are the areas I want most). I love peds of all forms though, so maybe the Peds ER to combine the ED and peds :) We'll see!
