Myers-Brigg personality test....
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi Everyone..I thought it would be fun if we took the Myers-Brigg personality test and shared with everyone what our specialty is or what we hope to do (if not yet a nurse or want to change jobs). If you're confused maybe this can help. For example...as an INFP (introverted, intuitive, feeling, peceiving) I would be more suited to work in mental health, public health or oncology. I would not work out so well in the ER, OR or medical surgical. I knew all this but the description just makes me more confident that my intuition about myself was probably right on. HERE'S ANOTHER INTERESTING LINK TO CHECK OUT INFO ABOUT YOUR TYPE!!!! :)

I think it helps to get some insight to your natural temparament and to keep it in mind in choosing your work setting. I know it's not the end all and be all but it's a tool that can be used and it could be helpful. I hope others find this at least a little hepful.
I posted this before but it was moved to the breakroom so maybe this time it wll get a better response. I love this forum..you guys are great!
Im an HSP (Highly Sensitive Person), Type 9 (The Peacemaker). Also an INFP which means I prefer to work alone or 1 on 1. Still studying though so Im not yet sure which specialty suits me. Any INFP NURSES in here? Which specialty is most fulfilling for an INFP?
I'm also an INFP and HSP, and have tested the same since high school 20+ years ago. I've worked in the cardiac field for 15 years, ranging from diagnostic imaging to tele to CCU to OP clinic. I kind of fell into it and stayed, and I do still enjoy it most of the time. But I have always wanted to go into psych, counseling, and/or teaching, three of the fields that always come up as good for INFPs.
I *loved* my psych clinicals. Six weeks on the forensic unit of a state hospital ... loved every minute. Even had a psychiatrist stand in awe as a client who had not opened up in two years told me his entire life story -- the ward supervisor requested a copy of my case study for his chart.
I'm not in a position to make a major change right now, but in the next few years, that's where I'm leaning.
And I wholly agree with another poster (sorry, don't remember who) who noted that "all nurses are psych nurses."

I fit that profile, too. I'm an INFP for sure. I'm new to nursing working on an oncology/medsurg floor. There are moments of human connection on our unit with patients of all types, not just oncology patients, but I don't know if medsurg is a good fit for INFP's. More often than not I'm running at full tilt getting things done, leaving my little INFP-brain frazzled. I'm considering rehab or psych as a possible future move. But, we shall see.
I don't think one can expect to work alone or 1 on 1 and be in a hospital setting. Nursing seems to be a team sport.
Cheers,
Dave

I'm still a student, I'm not sure what I want to do. Maybe NICU, ED, Critical Care, or labor & delivery.
This is an old thread, I know, but this is my personality type too, and I wondered if you could shed some light on any niche that you might have found, by this point.
Thanks!! :)
