Hello friends! This thread is for everyone applying to CHLA's RN Residency Program starting in March 2020. Hopefully we can keep each other posted on the application process, interviews and whatever else. I'm trying to apply to their NICCU! What about you?

Would anyone be interested in starting a GroupMe or Facebook group with the March 2020 cohort? I’d love to be able to chat more with people and maybe it’ll help with housing situations also!

Yeah I can make one later tonight and I’ll post what the name is so we can add people in!

Hello everyone! For those who are going to be in the March 2020 cohort for CHLA I have created a Facebook group. It’s called CHLA March 2020 new grad nurse residency.

Hello, I am applying to med-surg this March for the september cohort. I could really feel the great energy with all of these threads, and im sad to hear that they reject so many applicants. Can I just ask did you feel that your interview went well? I know it doesnt hurt to apply, but im scared ill just get overlooked automatically bc i have a 3.3 GPA

Hello, I am planning on applying to the Sep 2020 cohort as well! I have so many questions, it's probably ridiculous! It looks like the March 2020 cohort was able to apply to different units compared to the options we have, which is probably because those units they applied to are now full. I'm a first gen college grad and have no idea how this application process works, so if somebody would be kind enough to answer just this one question I have, it would be great help!

When applying to Med-Surg, do you apply to the specific wing or just to Med-Surg overall?

I am applying for Sept 2020. Did anyone have issues uploading their packets because they were both over 4MB even when split into two parts?

Thanks!

For those that got hired last year, what did you put as your minimum expected annual salary?

Honestly is doesn’t matter cause all New Grads get paid the same. I’d put like 70k.

@ssddee03 I just got my official offer today too for The Heart Institute! Yahoo - congrats! Where are you from? I’m moving back to Cali from Vegas

@Tinyhumannurse No second rounds first round was the video, haha

@taylorr13 You just need to have your license before your start date. CHLA admits into their new graduate program 2x/year - March and September. They might list is as Spring, so it’ll likely be the start of March 2021 that you need you license. You don’t need it to apply.

Hey, I'm a newbie to the blog here- was wondering would any of you be so kind to share the things you did to make your application stand out to get chosen for The Heart Institute? I'm still a student and I do NOT reside on the west coast.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Hey there -  welcome to the forum!

Congrats on being so proactive! I also did not go to school in the Southern California area nor did I do any rotations at CHLA.

-Try to get a preceptorship/senior practicum in an ICU. Even though it’s 2 units, the ICU is where you’ll spend most of your time in the first year.
-Your essay - be personal, make it impactful. Don’t be bland or cliche. Why CHLA? Why hearts? How has your experience prepared you for this job?

-The extra stuff. Have you volunteered? In any clubs? Any leadership in your school’s SNA? What have you done that makes you special.
-There will be a video interview before the actual interviews. Practice recording yourself and make sure you’re articulate, concise and know how to tell a story without rambling (video interview is timed)

-They are looking for a culture for more than a person who knows about pediatric cardiology. It’s so niche, they fully anticipate on teaching you. Look up information on the mission, vision & culture of CHLA & interweave that into all of your statements/responses.

I hope this helps! Feel free to ask any other questions.
