Chicago salary requirements RN returning to profession?

Specialties Geriatric

Hi All,

I am returning to nursing after 20 years away. I took the RN refresher, and re-took NCLEX last month. For all intents and purposes, I would be considered a new grad I guess, even with 13 years of long term experience so long ago...

I am starting to apply to nursing homes in the NW suburbs of Chicago. Some of these companies are asking for salary requirements or salary history from me. Since my last position was about as far away from nursing as you could get, I wouldn't consider this information to be relevant to a LTC hiring manager. ??

Also, I am unsure as to what to ask for in response to a salary requirement. I don't want to lowball myself into being poorly compensated...at the same time, I don't want to seem "greedy" or crazy.:lol2:

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

Also, is there a difference in pay for an assisted living facility? I would expect that it would be a little lower, but does anyone know how much?

Thanks!!!

For Salary Requirements I put negotiable. I was never really asked in the interview what salary I expected. The salaries where I work are set anyway (I work prn).

Here in my part of AL, some LTCs pay more. Hospital pay can be low here.

I worked in an Alzheimer's assisted living. Starting pay was about 22 bucks. Same as LPN, experience and certification didn't enter in to pay rate. I am in northwest suburbs as well.. Quit because I didn't want to lose my license. Census was going up, staff was not. Good luck in your endeavors.

Thanks for your responses. I'll try the negotiable...

Specializes in LTC currently.

Ltc facilities hire Rns NEW GRADS AT 25-28 an hr. I know a new grad treatment nurse started off at 28 an hour with no experience. I know other nurses have started off at 25-26 an hr, but this is ltc, I cant speak for assisted living.

Specializes in this and that.

welcom....i think most LTC just pay whatever they feel like..it doesnt matter experience or certification....it would just me straight pay....

Welcome back to nursing. LTC has changed, so be prepared! (I've been doing it for 15 yrs and have seen it change)

I would put down negotiable.

You're scaring me!! Thanks!
