Nurses Job Hunt

I am super down right now, I am from a foreign country who came to the Land Of Dreams(USA) searching for a job immediately after graduation. I passed NCLEX last month answering 75 questions, now I am on a Job Hunt and getting declined one after another, everyone is asking for job experience, I dont know what to do anymore.....losing my life destination.

Chicago is very tough to get a job in if your a new grad. It seems most people have connections in the hospital system in Chicago if they do get a job. Don't get discouraged. Keep looking. And if possible check out other cities or states if you are able to relocate. Illinois is also my state I am still looking as well but it seems like this is the case all over the country.

Your comment about the US being the "land of dreams" implies somehow this country has let you down. This will sound harsh, but you chose to move here at a time when actual Americans cannot support themselves in their own country due to a lack of positions. I honestly would hope we aren't hiring foreigners when our own aren't able to find work. Did you do your homework first, before moving here, on what the economy is like right now and what the nursing market is like right now in the United States? Up to 40% of new grad nurses are unemployed for a year or longer, sometimes more than that depending on where you live. Chicago is known to be one of the rougher places to find employment as a new grad.

I suggest that you research what areas are hiring. Most of the places that still will take new nurses are in rural areas, generally in spots the majority of people don't want to live. Almost all the urban areas are saturated with new grads. Areas along the Mexico border hospitals are still looking for new grads. So are Indian reservations and other rural areas.

Best of luck. It is rough right now for Americans, even moreso for foreign nurses with no experience.

Keep up the search. It can get discouraging! Relocating might be necessary. I've heard that Texas has great opportunities for new grads because the shortage is so great, plus wonderful pay and benefits! As far as "hiring foreigners rather than our own"! What? This is the land of opportunity! The jobs should go to who has the qualifications and best fit regardless of where they are from!

North texas has a huge glut of new nurses so this is bad advice. maybe nebraska?

The only place in Texas not completely saturated is the Texas/Mexico border and impoverished, rural areas.

Lets clear something up here:

You are a licensed Nurse since last month July 2012, right?

And you are down/disappointed because you can not find a job thus far after 1 month of searching, right?

Have some stronger skin man. 1 month of job seeking is nothing so far

Some people search for months, including myself, and some even years.

Do your research.
