AC IV starts
I need some advice or tips on AC IV starting. As a floor nurse I rarely even try to use the AC vein do to patient comfort or depending on the patient some never keep there arm straight. But there are some times when you really need to have an AC IV and sometimes I have trouble with them. I would say I am actually pretty good/decent at starting ivs and I am successful a good amount of the time. I usually start them in the forearm- just seems to always be my go to spot. I don't usually like the hand or wrist because I feel like they can be easy to loose depending on how much the patient is moving or how orientated they are. I know the AC is the biggest vein and seems like it should be easy to get but the few times I do actually try there I seem to miss them way more than when I use the forearm for some reason. I don't know if I just need more practice with them to get comfortable. But I have trouble deciding where to start my stick because at times I feel like I feel different veins going in different directions in the AC. I also don't know if I'm going in at the wrong angle. Any tips from more experienced nurses or ER staff that do more AC insertions? Thanks

which to choose???
The choice is really up to you but I would consider the nicu job if it is really your dream and where you think you would be happiest. That is an area that is hard to come by especially for a new grad. It all depends on I think how reliant you are in your family and if you think moving will work in your current situation. I would also like to say that you can't compare the two salaries really. Yes $21 is a lot farther away from $35 but you have to think about cost of living in the area where the job is. Obviously California has a high cost of living. I don't know anything about north Dakota but I imagine it is much cheaper to live there so therefore the pay reflects that. You just need to weigh the pros and cons. Good luck.

What scrubs to buy?
I would definitely clarify with your program before buying scrubs about the type. Even if you don't have to buy a specific brand most of the time there is at least a specific color they want. Maybe they forgot to give you this information but maybe not. I do like cherokee brand. You may just need to go to a uniform store and try on some brands to get an idea of fit and type.

5 interviews no offers.NEED HELP
I agree that it just may be a high amount of applicants. It is a very good sign that you have had so many interviews. It means you are definitely a good candidate. Keep your head up one will come soon. It may also be that if these places you are mentioning are actual new grad programs that they take longer on a hiring decision. Good luck.

Not sure where to look??
Sorry not sure if I can be much help but if you like the hospital your at do they offer 8 hr shifts like 11-7 or another shift. Just make sure you stay there until you actually get another job. I'm not sure about your area but RNs are still finding lots of clinic jobs. I would continue to search online at sites like monster like you stated or even look online for the actual website of clinics you make know. Lots of times they post employment opportunities. Home health wouldn't be too bad if you like having some independence while working. Not sure if your qualified but you could look into nursing jobs in health departments and schools. That way you probably wouldn't have weekends and it would be more of a set day schedule. Good luck. Sorry I couldn't help much. Sometimes you have to keep searching and eventually you will see something.

Please help me understand this scenario...can I be banned...
I agree with the above posters. You didn't sign anything and he can't force you to work there. Just make sure to save any messages as proof of the threatening interaction. I think he is "bluffing" when he says blacklisting you. And if this place has such a bad reputation I'm sure most of your state probably knows about it and other facilities would therefore not listen to this person. Good luck.

What do you pick for breakfast?
Definitely any protein and carbs gets you through the day better. Peanut butter, eggs, sausage, oatmeal

New Job- Odd Response From HR
I think you might be reading into their comment too much. They probably just want to notify the supervisor of the department to make sure that exact date works for them. If you have to go through an orientation or something they may need to have a staff member in place for those days to be with you. They will want to make sure to have a schedule planned out for you as a new hire. Don't worry.

IVFluids
I'm not sure what you mean exactly. Are you trying to solve a medication math calculation? The only time I hear about KVO is when there are orders for running fluids into the IV. KVO means keep vein open. This is so the vessel doesn't clot itself off and render the Iv line useless. KVO is just programming the pump so fluids (probably normal saline) run at a very low rate so the vessel will keep open for you. I'm not sure if this is what your asking. If not you might need to reword your post to help me understand better. :)

Thank yous after interviews
I don't know that I would give it the same day if you are meaning exactly after the interview finishes. In my opinion a thank you should be given at least a few hours after the interview at a minimum and before 2 days had passed. I think the interviewer wants to see that you have had time to think about and reflect on how the interview went and if the job seemed right for you. That way you will be able to write a thoughtful letter taking into account all you have learned by meeting with that person. If you want to do this so that they will receive it quicker than in the mail I would email a letter if you are able to and have their email address. That's how I sent my letters. Good luck with your interview. :)

Thank yous after interviews
If you interview both with HR and a nurse manager from a floor should you write a thank to both or just the NM? Both were really great and I figured I should to both but wasn't for sure. Thanks.

Chicago Nurse No Job
Chicago is very tough to get a job in if your a new grad. It seems most people have connections in the hospital system in Chicago if they do get a job. Don't get discouraged. Keep looking. And if possible check out other cities or states if you are able to relocate. Illinois is also my state I am still looking as well but it seems like this is the case all over the country.

Nurse Internship Question
Those you stated would all be good choices if you have the ability to choose. It also depends on your area of interest to the unit you might like to work after you graduate. I have noticed that you have a better chance getting hired after graduation on a unit type you did an internship on even specialty units. For example l&d or ob units are hard to get a job in as a new grad but they might give you a chance if you had an internship in that area.
