Chemistry

My fellow pre-nursing students. Do not, I repeat, do not be afraid of chemistry. I was PETRIFIED until after I had my first class. Thankfully, our professor was a peach so learning was fun, for lack of a better word. There is math but it's mostly dimensional analysis (google it to get a leg up) and basic arithmetic.

Everything, and I do mean EVERYTHING, is basically a continuation of what you previously learned. It's almost like putting together a puzzle. If you don't have all the pieces (understand the lessons) you won't be able to finish and will get frustrated.

If you feel you are falling behind, even if it's on something you may deem simple, go to tutoring or speak to your professor.

If you need to memorize acids/bases please do so. You won't realize how often they come up until you're on your next chapter or the next test (and that's the worst time to forget). Lab is pretty basic so there's nothing to discuss there.

Good luck to everyone thinking of taking it, about to take it, still taking it and to all of us who have already taken it - thank the heavens it's over with.

That dimensional analysis is exactly what you need to know to do nursing med math :)

Going to tackle that next. I'm actually looking forward to it.

I'm taking intro chemistry this summer

I'm in chem this summer also. The last time I did chemistry was high school, 1979! I had to drop cause it was really hard, well at the time it was hard, but I know it's because it wasn't cool and I had to put too much time into it. Being a nerd in the 70's was a rough road, nope, too easy to hang out at the beach and hang with the 'in' crowd. Chem now, can't wait...your right a piece of the puzzle will fit in. Bring it on!

I am fortunate enough that I do not have to take chemistry. I passed it in high school. And I wasn't in high school that long ago so I don't have to take in college. I know I passed it with a B though. It is probably a lot harder in college I'm sure.

I'm taking it this Summer on line. Hopefully, you are correct & it's a breeze. An A in a science would REALLY give me a GPA boost. :)

Taking Intro to Chemistry this summer. I'm not so much worried about the class except that it's being taught in 4 weeks (tues&thurs 330-830) instead of an entire semester. Don't really have another time to fit it in though so I will be making the best of it.

It's really one of those classes that you get what you put in. If you wait until the last minute to study, you're only screwing yourself. My motto: stay ahead of the class. By that I mean once you get the syllabus, read the first chapter. I kept a list of questions to ask the professor if something didn't click and I needed further clarification.

Thank you for this. I enjoy dimensional analysis, and I've been putting chem off because I did so poorly in it in highschool. I don't need it for my ASN, but wanted to take it so that it can count towards my BSN.

You made me feel better.

I feel the exact same way but in my opinion it's what you put in plus what kind of professor you have. My teacher didn't like us asking questions most days and other days when we didn't answer she refuses us to lecture, so it was a lot of self-teaching. One thing to do is study EVERYDAY at least two hours and form a study group.

Thanks for posting! I have 17 clinical chemistry college credits that will not transfer so I need to take Chem 1 & 2 which I plan on taking both this fall in 9 week incriments. I'm kind of glad because when I did the practice teas I totally forgot everything that had to do with chemistry so I am due for a refresher! I know that balancing chemical equations was really fun to me....
