I am starting my third chemistry class on January 12th (tomorrow!!) and was wondering if anyone was interested in forming a study group (or if there is already one on here that I did not see yet?)
Kristi :)
Good job! I hope I did that well on my quiz. Because of the ice storm our test was today so I will have to be patient until Monday. I feel like I did very well. I wish our instructor posted our grades online...oh well. I have been spoiled, and I need to get past that because in nursing school you have to wait a whole week for your test scores!
Got a couple of more websites from my prof, very helpful.
Well......don't know how we did yet. He's not very good at posting grades. He did say that it looks like only 1 person passed. I will say that was one of the WORST tests I've ever taken in my life. When we asked him last Saturday (the Sat. prior to test) what we should study, he went over a bunch of the problems throughout the 2 chaps our test was supposed to be on. I wasn't the only one that studied those problems, reworked them, did the problems similar in the workbook, at the end of the chapter, and also online at the website. Well wouldn't you know that not 1 thing he told us to study was on the test. Everything was from prior chapters. His questions were worded in such a way as to confuse. It was horrible. A bunch of us were outside after class and one of the ladies told us that this is only his 2nd term teaching and the last class he had to give take-home tests and quizzes so they would be able to bring their grades up to passing. All of us that were talking felt the same way, that his method of teaching was too vague and when asked for him to explain something that you don't understand he explains it the exact same way! What good is that if I didn't get it the first time?! He's also the chemistry tutor! I don't know what else to do. All I know is I'm not the only person in class that's out in left field. I got a whole left field full of ladies from my class!!!
Sounds like my instructor. i had to have someone else help me just so that I could understand the conversions to do the homework she gave us since we didn't have class last week. I'm going to be very angry if I have to enlist outside help to pass simply because my instructor is a ditz. She gave us problems to work and one was to get the mass of a waterbed, you get the mass of water needed to fill it..... turns out that that waterbed would weight as much as my DH diesel truck...........ummmm I think thats a little too big to be a waterbed don't you.
Lol! Yeah I think so too!
I've had a chat w/my advisor this am and she's going to find out for me are there any other chem tutors in the school. I just don't see where going to the same teacher is going to help if he's explained it in class 3x already! I'm by no stretch of the imagination stupid, but his test def. made me feel stupid! I think there's only 1 person in our class that passed that test. Everyone else not so good. I'm going to check some of the links posted in here and see if I find anything that might help! Good luck!
Kathy, I hope you can find the help that you will need in order to make it through the semester. Did you know the name of your professor when you signed up for that class? I signed up for my teacher specifically because her ratings on ratemyprofessor.com are outstanding. Teachers make all the difference in the world and your grades aren't worth taking a rick with a new teacher, who clearly isn't good at his job. Don't hesitate to approach the dean, that is what they are there for.
I got my first quiz grade and I got a 32/35. She threw everyone off by asking if pure air was an element, compound, heterogenous, or homogenous mixture. The answer was homogenous mixture because when she said "pure air" she just meant "clean air" not pure oxygen. Well, it didn't really matter because either way I was wrong. For whatever silly reason, I chose compound. Oh well. The other 2 points were because of simple sig fig errors. I should have known better. Next time I take the test I should figure out how many sig figs each answer must be before even doing the math. Thankfully she gave us some homework, I need all the practice I can get.
I hope everyone is doing fine.
Thanks NOVA.
Actually I didn't. We moved here last summer and this is my first term. I should have asked maybe but I think his class was the only one offered, on either Thurs or Sat. I went to that site and didn't see him in there. One of the ladies in class had said they emailed him earlier in the week, like Mon/Tues and they got no response. He said he didn't get anything...but I have my doubts. I will see what my advisor says and go from there. Thanks for the input! Oh, and wtg on your quiz!!!
Not really small. Private. South University. They have a new BSN program. Was the best option (not financially) so I wouldn't have to re-take any classes. Local cc science and math grades are only good for 5yrs. UofSC I would still end up taking almost a yr's worth of additional pre-req's before I could apply! :icon_roll

I got the first half of my first test back (yes, this professor is a little nuts....all the tests count as one test except for this one, which is given in two parts, two weeks apart...whatever...). I got a 94%, but the professor said it would be the easiest exam all year. Hopefully I can step up my game accordingly!
Good luck to everyone! Chemistry certainly is hard for us math challenged folks!
