Chemistry Study Group for Spring 2009

Published

I am starting my third chemistry class on January 12th (tomorrow!!) and was wondering if anyone was interested in forming a study group (or if there is already one on here that I did not see yet?)

Question:

Convert in to km:

5.128 x 10 to the 8 in

Can anyone help me set this up? I am very bad at math.....

Do you have an answer to this one? Here is how I worked it out, but please, someone, check my work.

5.128kmx10`8 = 1mi/1.609km=5280ft/1 mi=12 in/1 ft

It works out to be 201932.9273x10`8

So in Sci notation would put it to 2.019 x10`15. I think its right but moving the decimal sometimes confuses me.

First test is this Saturday:thnkg:

I'm really worried. I've studying my orifice

off and had to take a break. If I get stumped

on something, I'll come here for help. I get most

of it, but with only having class on Sat's it's A LOT

of info in such a short time.

Wish me luck:typing:banghead:

Good luck KathyRN2B, let us know how it goes.

Thanks Sand_Dollar!

About to go dive in to my book/notes/stuff now. Been running around paying for a class ring for daughter who's a HS junior this year. I swear it's ALWAYS something!

I took a peeksie at your profile...you're in SC?? Midlands???

Oh Kathy! Do I ever know what you mean by it always being something! My daughter just took the accuplacer and is looking at getting into college classes already. So that was the big thing here a couple of days ago.

Nope, not in SC, I am father west - in Colorado acutally, lol.

Yeah. We had a mtg with guidance a couple of weeks ago about colleges, taking tour, applying, etc.

I think the ppl for the graduation stuff are supposed to be here end of March/April to talk about ordering that stuff too.

All that AND nursing school....geez:bugeyes:

Did you ever get your answer to your question? What is the original question? Are you supposed to be converting km to in?

When I punched your formulas into my calculator I got 2.019329273 x 10^13

So your answer would be 2.019 x 10^13

Your right! I counted moving the decimal place wrong, DOH! I noticed the difference in our answers were because of the conversion #s used (well beside the decimal thing, lol). How do we know what # to use, yours was rounded up from mine (1.61 & 1.609)?

As you can see I have edited my response like 80 times! I worked the problem that many times haha. Anyways I got the conversion out of the back of my book. It should all be in your appendix.

My first quiz is tomorrow so I am nervous. I like new problems to challenge me though so thanks!:D

You will do great! Just go slow, check your work and prayer at the beginning of the test never hurts - that's my personal mantra! lol Good luck!!
