Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I am starting Chem II this semester. Anyone want to start a club???

so how is everyone holding up so far?

i can say this: i f&%@*^# hate chemistry... 2 weeks in a its such a pain already.. so much to the point that i just want to drop it the class, drop out of school and forget about being a nurse... what to do..what to do??

i just feel that the crap that i'm learning right now (kinetic rates) has not a damn thing to do with nursing.. why do they require this class??? :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire

breathe, breathe.. haha as you can tell, i'm not doing so well. any advice on how to hang on and get thru this 2nd semester? any good websites on where to learn this crap? anything?

i really need a prayer to keep it together this semster...

[vent] over.. lol

well hows it going for the rest of you?

i am sorry you are having such a bad time. i hope that it only gets better for you!!!!!!!! keep your head up and just remember that you can vent to us anytime!!!!!!!!!

Hey Charleybarley, Hang in there. You need to try this link http://chemed.chem.purdue.edu/genchem/topicreview/index_noframes.html

Our chem teacher has it posted on our class web site. It has helped me with some calculations.

I am also praying for you to do well. Hang in there and let me know if the link helps.

Good luck.

I am a bit in the same boat and have our first quiz today. New teacher so I don't know what to expect:uhoh21: . Wish I wasn't so "rusty" in my algebra calculation.

Anyways I really hope the web site helps. Hang in there you can do it.

Kat:)

Hi, please add me too. I started chem 101 this quarter. Lots of fundamentals I only half understand so far. Thanks for posting the website. Does anyone else have any good ones? Good luck everyone! We can do it!!!

Can anyone help me on the following chemistty question? Please!!!! I need help before tomorrow morning.

1. Calculate the number of milliliters of water in a cubic foot of water.

2. One liter of homogenized whole milk has a mass of 1032 grams. What is the density of the milk in grams per milliliter? in kilograms per liter?

Can anyone help me on the following chemistty question? Please!!!! I need help before tomorrow morning.

1. Calculate the number of milliliters of water in a cubic foot of water.

2. One liter of homogenized whole milk has a mass of 1032 grams. What is the density of the milk in grams per milliliter? in kilograms per liter?

1. Go from cubic feet to cubic inches, from cubic inches to cubic centimeters, which is the same as mililiters:

1 cubic foot x 12 cubic inches / 1 cubic foot x 2.54 cm^3 / 12 cubic inches = 30.48 militers of water

2. First, remember that density of mass divided by grams. Just remember DMV (like the place you get your license). D=M/V.

Second, just convert the liters to millilters for the first part:

1 Liter x 1 milliliter / 0.001 liter = 1000 millilters

Now you already have grams, so just divide the grams by the 1000 milliliters:

1032 grams / 1000 milliters = 1.032 grams/mm

The second part of that question just needs you to convert the grams into kilograms:

1032 grams x 1 kilogram / 1000 grams = 1.032 kg

Then divide by one liter

1.032 kg / 1 liter = 1.032 kg/l

Phew! I hope I did that right and that it helps! I like to show all my steps to make sure I don't make mistakes.

actually, i am enjoying chemistry.

guys just relax and believe in yourself that you can do it.

quite honestly, chemistry is not difficult. it's all an applied science that involves calculations, formulas and memorizing.

have a positive attitude and you will come out with flying colors. (something to encourage and help you get rid of the phobia)

I attempted to take Chem 1A about 12 years ago, and just didn't get it at all! So I decided to get my LVN instead of my RN, and thereby avoid chemistry. 12 years later, I am back in school, taking pre-reqs for the LVN to RN bridge program. For this program, I have to take Chem 2A (introduction to Chemistry). I am SO afraid, but I hope that it will be easier than 1A. I noticed that chem 1A has a pre-requsite of high school level chemistry, which chem 2A does not. Hopefully that means it is a little bit easier. I will take algebra over the summer, then the dreaded chem 2A in the fall, so the math is fresh in my mind. Wish me luck !

:crying2:

I actually enjoyed chem more than A&P. Memorize the rules and you'll be OK. I did spend 2 class days per week with my professor. It look a lot of work and time but I actually got an "A". The math (moles, stoich, etc) isn't that hard. You just need to practice. I'm in organic now and will be staying after every Friday with the tutor. Ask for help. Study. Practice. Hang in there. I found out (unfortunately) that Chemistry is the basis of so many other things. Imagine my surprise in micro when our second chapter was Chem! I have a fear it will pop up everywhere!! :stone

This is the BEST Chemistry site I have found on the internet. It's aimed toward high school chemistry, but it has been such an asset for me. http://dbhs.wvusd.k12.ca.us/webdocs/ChemTeamIndex.html

It is so good. I print off the pages on what we're going over and do all the practice problems. It really helps you get the basics down so that you can master the subject.

Ditto :( I'm hating this class now. It doesn't help that it's 8-11am and my teacher is sooooo dull. We have a quiz every Tuesday (get to use notes so that's a +) and a lab the 2nd 1/2 of every Thursday.

I am just so not interested in the subject. Come on May!

Add me to the list too, please! I am taking Health Science Chemistry I.

Two weeks in, but uneventful so far. Have had only one lab so far, a safety lecture. But, as if I didn't find the class unexciting enough, my instructor keeps jumping from one thing to another with no apprarent connections to anything, and it doesn't seem as though he really cares if anybody learns anything in his class.

We have our first exam on Thursday and I haven't studied on bit. My bio class is insane and I barely have enough time for anything but it (it has two two-hour labs every week, and we usually have two lab reports due for each one, so that's four lab reports a week. Today in lab we're doing THREE labs, so I'll have three labs due just from today).

I really need to get to studying. A lot of it is familiar stuff from Chem 101, but it's still really intense! Wish me luck everyone.
