HELP!! Any suggestions on Spelling troubles
Break them down into easier terms when spelling. For example, endocarditis. Endo(it helps me to remember this means "within"), then card, and then itis. Sometimes, either before or after break them apart I make a catchy little phrase to go with it.

You caught Cheaters... what would you do or have you done?
good for you! i would also stop them. one, it irks me because there are people who work hard for their grades, me included, and people who cheat are also cheating the way the nursing program system works. two, they disrupting the class with their flagrant breach of morality. three, if they are cheating their way through school they are cheating their patients of a competent nurse(if they pass the boards that is). one question- where the heck was the professor?

Chemistry 2006/ 2007 Club***
Hi all! Chemistry not going so good here:( Could anyone recommend any good study sites for Chemistry? I have web access with my book, but I need all the help and practice I can get. I made some stupid mistakes on my last test. Do not really understand electron configurations, now on top of that have hybridization, which apparently is not even in our book:uhoh3: If anyone knows anything about either of these subjects, or any good Chemistry sites, I would be very grateful!!

Biology CLEP test?
Check with your counselor to be sure. I took the CLEP for Biology and they took it as General Biology, which was great for me cause that's what I needed. If you do take it I would just review- if you want- basic biology( and study your genetics too, I had 7 of those questions).

What a disappoinment, I'm SO ANGRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ouch, I would be upset too! In fact, I was upset when I changed schools and it happened to me. There are some online schools that do those particular classes, the ones I looked at were too expensive for me but you might be able to find other programs than those that I found. I don't know if you are working on your RN or BSN, but if you were thinking of getting a BSN someday, maybe you could do some of those classes? I hope things work out okay for you and I am so sorry you had such a bad time.

how to wait... patiently
Enjoy yourself and think positive about getting in. Keep yourself occupied with things you like to do ( or need to do, if your like me, I get all non-school stuff done during break). When I worry, I redecorate a room in my house, it can be exercise, and will probably make you tired enough you won't lose any sleep at night.

Part-time or Full time
I guess that really depends on you. What kind of support system do you have? Is it possible, if needed, could you cut down on some work hours? Are you a good time manager? It is possible for people to work full time and raise children while going to school, but it sure isn't easy, but then again, things that are worthwhile are rarely ever easy.

Chemistry 2006/ 2007 Club***
Add me to the list too, please! I am taking Health Science Chemistry I. Two weeks in, but uneventful so far. Have had only one lab so far, a safety lecture. But, as if I didn't find the class unexciting enough, my instructor keeps jumping from one thing to another with no apprarent connections to anything, and it doesn't seem as though he really cares if anybody learns anything in his class.

333 lb. Nurse?? Help, please.
I know good nurses that are heavy, and they seem to do their work very well. More than anything, it is what is on the inside that counts most! I would rather have an overweight, caring nurse than a skinny grouchy one(probably from lack of chocolate). I started exercising daily though, for my health. I sleep so much better and I feel less tense during the day, plus I feel better about myself. Start slow and pace yourself, but remember to do something you like, or at least listen to good music while you do it. You don't have to spend a fortune on dieting products, just exercise and make good food choices. And don't forget- Character counts more than calories!!!!

Anatomy??
Anatomy class is so much fun, but it is alot of work. On the first day of lab, they brought us in to get a general overview of the cadaver we would work with. i don't know if placing the box that said "boneless chicken breasts" was intentional or not:chuckle . Some students didn't come back after that first night. If you get a little queasy, its okay though, it gets easier to do these things as the semester progresses. There will probably be dissection involved, and you may have to name organs, muscles, etc., on the cadaver, but it isn't bad once you are used to it.

NET Testing
I am no expert on stantardized tests, and I haven't taken the NET yet, but if you score in the 94th percentile of anything, I would say you deserve a pat on the back. Great job!!!!!!

Transferring..good idea or not
I just transferred schools. I was about to start my first clinical semester when I moved for my husband's job. Get at least two answers on the same question from different people. It sounded so easy, but some people at my new school gave me incorrect information. I am lucky not to have to repeat anything, but I have to take so much extra stuff I figured I might as well get a BSN. Also, some schools may not have a wait list- depending where you go. You may have to keep reapplying, and competition may not be what your used to. I have a 3.5, but compared to some of the people at my current school, I feel I will be lucky to get in at all.

Should I apply at a nursing home that was recently negatively reviewed?
This original post was awhile ago, but I felt I had to reply. I am working as a CNA to get through nursing school. True, hospital work is great and you have a chance to learn more of you want to be a nurse. But working with the elderly is a truly rewarding experience, and if you have your heart set on it, do it. But, I would advise against working at places that are significantly below par. The things people will do or not do will cause you disillusionment. And worse yet, it's likely you won't be able to help the situation. In addition, if its your first CNA job and you don't hold a certification, you could end up learning practices that are unsafe or unsanitary. When I got my first job I remember coming back home saying the place I had went to was so horrible I never wanted to go back, paycheck or not. People not wearing gloves, no handwashing happening, disrespectful treatment of the residents, and no one seemed to care unless state was there.....

NET test help!
I have posted a similar question on another forum- I too am concerned about the math portion. I have been told that the math on the NET is pretty basic stuff, at about 7th grade level- as one poster described it. I hope this raises your hopes. And Good Luck to you!

How to learn A&P I in a week or less... (I've really messed things up)
I have been througn A&P I and II, as well as Microbiology. I never would have succeeded without my trusty notecards!!! Take good notes, even if there are powerpoints available. Take notecards everywhere with you and run through them often. Get your kids involved too! When my mother was in Nursing school she had me quiz her every night. We spent time together and we both learned. It sounds a little weird, but I make up songs or phrases to learn my material. Also, I am no artist but I draw or make visual comparisions between things. For example, bone tissue under the microscope looks like the inside of a tree, stuff like that. Be your own best friend and never let anyone, including yourself, put you down. You are doing this to better yourself and WHEN YOU SUCCEED( and you will), you will be an inspiration to your children! Good Luck to you!
