Chemeketa 2018

Published

Anyone else getting ready to apply for the 2018 nursing program?

Does this mean people can't use their alternate points for Fall 2018? Or the application period after this one?

Last year I took the exam and got an 81. They ended up only accepting 40 people and had 28 alternates. I started as alternate 20 and by the beginning of term was alternate 7.

I just found out a couple weeks ago that they are now longer giving people the extra 5 alternate points anymore. When I talked to health sciences at Chemeketa, they told me that they did not know yet if they would be accepting 40 or 48 people this year, but they did confirm that they no longer give out the 5 extra alternate points. So, I decided to go ahead and retake the test this year rather than use my score from last year. I ended up getting a 92, which really surprised me, but I'm happpy because I was really worried when I found out about not getting alternate points.

My understanding after talking to health sciences, is that no one that was an alternate last year has any extra points for this year. My advisor told me unless someone has already gotten an email telling them they have the five points, then they don't have them.

So I signed up for Microbiology and Writing 122 this term in case (by some miracle) I got an interview and into OHSU. But I didn't get an interview with OHSU and Chemeketa is my first choice school.

With my Kaplan score of 91 and only missing 2.5pts total on my scorecard, do you think I'm safe to drop those classes? Am I safe in assuming I have good odds of being accepted?

I don't want to be foolish and count myself in before I know but I would LOVE to have Spring and Summer with my family without any other obligations prior to (hopefully) starting school.

I got 86 on my test, that puts me down 5.5 points with a horrid writing class I took years ago. No surprise, writing was my worst section.

I heard last year the window was around 304-310, anyone hear otherwise?

I've read through most of last year's posts and from those scores, 304-310 appeared to be the accepted range. Though at the 304 level it looks like they had to start doing tie breakers because one person posted they got in with 304 and alternate #1 also posted that they had 304. Alternate #19 had 300. I read in a comment above that they are not allowing the alternates from last year to use their 5 point advantage so I am betting that the scores admitted last year will be very similar this year because last year they went through 19 of their alternates from the previous year so only one person was applying with the extra 5 points. Crazy that they went through that many people! Even if you're 5.5 points down, you still have a really good shot. I asked on last year's forum how many alternates they went through from last year and someone replied 13. If you're within the first 10 alternate spots, it seems like chances are good!!!

I will be taking the test this Thursday! I will post my grade to share with you guys! So nervous. Congratulations to you people who got amazing scores!

Good luck!! You'll do great!! Highly recommend Khan Academy practice for the physiology and math (even though the math is basic...) Crossing my fingers for you!!

Well this post makes me sad I got an 80%. Found the science section the hardest. I have straight As and looks like this low score will get me out of the running. Congrats to everyone who did awesome! Tough test

If you had straight As going in, I'd think you'd at least be on the alternates list and it looks like they go through quite a few of them!! There's still a shot!

Silly question but on the email regarding the test, it says to bring your K number. Is it okay if I just write it down for them? I do not go to Chemeketa so I don't have an ID card (if they have them) so I would think having my K number on paper would be sufficient. Thanks!

You don't need to actually show your Chemeketa ID. Just know your K# because you'll need to input it into either the supplemental questionnaire before the exam or on the exam. (Can't remember which.) Just bring your ID and hand it to them when you get there. Good luck!

Okay thanks!
