Chemeketa 2018

Published

Anyone else getting ready to apply for the 2018 nursing program?

You honestly should take the classes. You will need them to get your bachelor's degree after Chemeketa. On top of that, Microbiology is very important to know for nursing school from my experience!

Two years ago my score was I think 302.5 points and was alternate 20 out of 20 (the only alternate left standing that year). I got to use the 5 points for this last year and I retook the Kaplan. I had 315/315 that next year. I am shocked that they are not giving alternates extra points anymore? That was like the best worst case scenario for not getting in! I hope they continue with the extra points! It is such a blessing to have to help get you into the program!

Advise for the Kaplan for the ones who have not taken it yet: Reading: it is really simple if you let it be. Let the reading passage answer the questions for you. Don't read the whole passage unless you need to get a general feel for the story, only focus on what the question wants. Math: super easy. You get a calculator, make sure you punch in the numbers right. Always double check your work. Make sure the answer makes sense. There is simple converting, story problems, fractions, percentages. It is probably the easiest part of the test. Science: If you don't know the answer, mark off the ones you know aren't true. Then, from there read the answers you have left and decide what makes more sense. Understand how the body system (whichever one it pertains to) works to help paint a picture and give you some guidance to what answer makes more sense. English: worst subject of them all. When asking you which sentence to take out or add into the passage, read the sentence before and after where it could be placed. Does it make sense? Does it sound right? What is this paragraph about vs the other paragraphs. Khan academy's SAT practice has english and reading questions exactly how it is in the Kaplan. I felt like the Khan's academy was harder than the Kaplans, but it is very helpful to practice with.

I wish I could've have commented sooner for tips, but last term in nursing school kept me very very busy.

Best of luck to you guys!

Anyone taking the test this Friday?! I'm extremely nervous and feel like puking just thinking about it í ½í¸

Thanks for the input!! I appreciate it. I know that it is important. I really struggled with taking it now vs taking it the summer between 1st and 2nd year or immediately before my bachelors. I ultimately decided that because I haven't had weekends and evenings with my family for a year that I would like to spend that time with them now and then take the classes at a later date. (I work 40+ hrs currently.)Though maybe come summer I will get antsy with all the "free time" and take Micro then.

I take it friday and I feel the same. I am so nervous!!

I would honestly get it done now and not try to take classes between the 1st and 2nd year of the program during the summer. I am in the program, and if you have kids/family you want that summer time to refresh yourself. The time demands of nursing school are no joke! Each term is approximately 10 credits, but its easily 15 worth of work. The burn out is real. Not taking classes during the summer between nursing school years was the one thing I have promised my family because of how much I have to essentially neglect them. Nursing school is the hardest, but most rewarding thing I have ever done. It will make you humble and severely appreciate getting a B.

Thank you for your perspective! I absolutely understand what you're saying. Though for the past year and a half, I've been taking 2-3 classes a semester and working 40+ hours a week. I missed all of my 6yr olds tball games last year. So I will be taking this opportunity to rest with them and take a vacation and try to prep for the very intense two years I have ahead of me. If I have to wait a semester or two between the RN and BSN programs, I'm okay with that. My boys need some time with me right now.

How is the program so far? What is your favorite part? Your least favorite? What is the schedule like?

possible dumb question. I have seen a few posts about Kaplan scores in the 90's. After the test we were given a score sheet to see our points in correlation with our score and it only went up to 89 I feel like I might have misunderstood something about scoring. Can anyone explain?

The score sheet that we were given after the exam just shows you what your Kaplan exam score is worth. If you get 89 or above, you get "full points" for the exam portion of your nursing scorecard, which is 50 points.

Good luck to those that are taking the exam today and tomorrow!!

I got an 86!!! Which means I'm only 3 points short, hopefully it's enough !! Can't wait till they send emails
