Hopefully we all just get in this year and don’t have to worry about it ?

Yes please! ?? LOL

I think the hardest part is waiting! It’s near impossible to not think about.

I know.. very hard to not think about. I looked at my emails last year and it took them 6 weeks to send out admission/regret letters so I’m really thinking the first week of May is when we’ll find out.

Getting a CNA license isn't too bad! There are several programs around the state that last anywhere from 4 to 10 weeks. It provides a lot of hands-on experience that ultimately would be useful during the clinical portion of the nursing program. I actually got my CNA license through Chemeketa while waiting to apply for the nursing program this year.

yes, I could see that being very helpful in the short term but isn't the program a non-credit class? That is a big money and time commitment for people who have no intention of working as a CNA in the long run.

I would have to assume that falling behind  on basic care skills is due to remote classroom limitations and not being able to teach these skills in person. Unless I am misunderstanding basic care, they are referring to stuff that would be covered in clinicals or skills labs?

Chemeketa's BNA program cost $1,412 when I completed it last Winter. You can get reimbursed for the cost by your employer if you go on to work as a CNA. You can also go into free nursing assistant classes through skilled nursing facilities in the area. I'm not sure what the catch is with those programs (the facility probably assumes that you are taking the classes with the intent to work there) as I took a different route in earning my CNA license. Many people take the Summer BNA course at Chemeketa or complete a 4 week course at a skilled nursing facility for ease of time and money.

I am not sure what was meant by basic care. Perhaps it would be covered in lab? I'd assume that the program would focus less on basic care (like tolieting, bathing, etc) and place more emphasis on more advanced skills. I don't know though. Just speculating.

Yes, besides the out of pocket cost and the time commitment the CNA program has it's own prerequisites which also require $$$ but at least they are for credits.

First term is basic care, VS, how to use a gait belt. So I definitely see why a CNA license is essential. May even make it easier to get in the program the first year

I know Linn-Benton Community College requires their applicants to have their CNA license so this doesn’t surprise me.

Oh wow. The first term is basically what is covered in the BNA course at Chemeketa.

Ahh! Anyone else just wanting score sheets out? Waiting feels eternal today!
