Published

Hi!! Anyone here take their Chemeketa Kaplan exam this week?

Alright alternates! Get ready to move LOL

They just made the covid vax mandatory for health sciences students who do clinicals. Maybe someone will drop!

I have a question, was the exam the same when you had to retake it for a better score? I was an alternative missing three points this year.

Has anyone seen the updated application?? There was talk on here about making the CNA mandatory but what they ended up doing was giving 5, 4 and 3 points based off an active license. I find it really discouraging as I’m a Certified Medical Assistant and draw blood, give injections of medications and vaccinations, perform EKGs etc and it’s only 3 point title. I’m not saying anything bad about CNA’s at all, but do they do blood and/or injections??

Oh man! Is this an update for next year applicants?

I took the test twice and had the same test each time… I remembered the reading & writing passages as I was reading them the second time from the prior year.

I am a CNA2… we do not draw blood, but we do spend a lot of time with our patients and do a lot of other things with our patients. I know LBCC also gives points for medical experience, and gives more for CNA’s than the others… there’s got to be a logic behind their point system… I’m curious to know!

I was told that some of the first term they basically go over CNA stuff, safe patient transfers, bed changes, bathing, ect. They want everyone to have all this training done already so they can start right away with the nursing material. I have my CNA II and have been lucky enough to be able to draw blood in the ER but not injections. I don't agree with the points assigned either.

But it's not required from what I was reading in the application, you just get more points for it. I just went back and double checked and you aren't required to have your CNA next year. I know not all CMA's duties are the same at each clinic, but at mine we literally spend more time with the patients than the actual providers on some level. We irrigate wounds, help with dressings, assist with minor surgeries (I have some crazy vasectomy stories LOL) etc. I'm not trying to say I'm better than anyone with a different title, I just find it extremely discouraging that my 7 years of in depth medical assisting isn't enough. :(

Yes it was the same.

That is good that they are not requiring the CNA license to apply however I agree that point system seems extremely specific and off putting. I think they should of given fair points for all active licenses because that 2 points difference come mean you getting accepted or being denied a spot in the program. I wish you the best of luck! I am sure you still have a great advantage with those extra points, knowledge and experience.

From what I heard it should be the same test! But I also heard there is two versions of the test so I would review in case.

I agree! This is very discouraging to future applicants! I know with other Community colleges, they gave points for people who actually went to that school and took pre-reqs there, having previous medical background experience, being in the military, and people who have a degree already. I only applied to Chemeketa because I felt I had a chance since it was based on grades and exam score. This new application point system will definitely be interesting.
