Anyone here taking Chem 101 (intro to chem/chem 1) over the summer? I was thinking about doing it but don't need to. I will be taking 3 other 3 credit hour courses along w/ this 4 credit hour course. I was looking for peoples opinions on this one... And/or tips for passing it during the reduced time frame. lol

Do you already have some recent chemistry? Personally, I wouldn't, especially if you don't need it and already have 3 classes on your plate. That is a full load for summer. If you are wanting to take it over summer, then perhaps you should drop one or more of the other classes. Some programs use that chem grade as a core prereq - like A&P, which means it can be weighted heavily and is something you will want a high grade in. Definitely check that out before you make a decision. Also check with your school, the number of credit hours may be too many for the summer.

Good luck!

I took Chem over the summer a couple of years ago by itself and it was hard. I got a B in the class and I think I may have had an A if I had taken it during a regular semester. It was nice to get it out of the way in 6 weeks though! You can do it, however I recomend taking it alone as a summer class. Good luck!

took it over the summer, along with developmental psyc and nutrition.

dont ask me how i got a 4.0 that quarter because it was all a haze. i may have just mentally blocked it from my memory.

it wasnt that bad, although i did have alot of chemistry experience from so many prep classes i took.

if you havnt taken chem before, do not do it. to get a good handle on chem, you need time time time!

Thanks for your input. I am planning on dropping one of my classes over the summer. So that will leave me with two and chem. And my chem is several years old... I'm still deciding whether or not to take. But I think that I am going to take it because I don't want to have to take it AND A&P 2 in the coming spring semester... Any thoughts?

I'm taking Intro to Chem this Summer!

Yay! :yeah: Hopefully more people will take it or chime in with tips on how to succeed in it over the summer... :D Also, as an update I am dropping on of my classes over the summer so I will just be taking Chem 101 and two other 3 credit hour classes. Yes I know that this is a lot but I can do it! Have a great night!

It has been a long time since I took Chemistry, but I have been reading a Chemistry book for the last few weeks. A lot of it is coming back to me and I'm just trying to get the basic concepts down before the actual class starts. I don't want to get too far in depth, before I know what I'll actually need to learn for the class.

If you have time, make sure you know all the nomenclature, especially the polyatomics and their charges. This is what gave my chem 101 class the most trouble. We had tons of it to memorize as I hear is pretty standard for most chem 101 classes. Also brush up on conversions/dimensional analysis and such. Those areas seem to be where people missed the most points on tests. I have four weeks left of my 11 week chem 101 course. I don't think it would have worked for me to take it in a six week format. I had no prior chem knowledge and it has been a difficult class for me. I am excited that I have an "A" at this point, but have no idea if I will be able to maintain that grade.

I agree that it probably wouldn't have worked for me to take it in 6 weeks either. And I know that taking it over ten weeks or whatever the summer is, is going to be challenging and require a lot of studying/memorization but I think that it can be done... I had said in an earlier post that I was considering dropping it and taking it in the Spring when I take A&P 2 but I think that that might be even more challenging then taking it over the summer. It won't be my only class. I'm also going to take English Comp 2 and Intro to Stats. Has anyone taken stats yet? What can I expect?

Me, too, I need more time to let things soak in and a chapter or two a day was too much. Runined my whole summer. Plus I had things going on in my life that really made it hard and with it being so condensed, the drop date passed really quick so I was committed. Now I am taking O chem in a regular semester and it is MUCH better. I need to sleep on things.

As for stats. I dreaded it and put it off. It was fine! I actually found it so much easier than prereq intermediate alegebra. My brain works better with word problems, I guess. Good luck!

Thanks for your input. I am still thinking about taking it over the summer because I'm still planning on working while I finish up my pre-reqs and I don't want to work and take A&P 2 and Chem at the same time... For those that don't know (which will be everyone... :lol2:) I do alarm response and work 6p-6a 3 days one wk and 4 days the next week... And so in doing this with the huge class that is A&P 2 I figured that I would rather only have to study that material instead of it PLUS chem...
