Chem Fall 2007

Published

I'm hoping we can make this a sticky and have a new Chem group for Fall 2007. I'm starting August 23. I'm taking Chem (of course), A&P 1, and Nutrition. Anyone else up for a Chem group?

Good Luck to us All!!:yeahthat:

I'm holding steady at a B-,but with extra credit and labs I should be at a solid B very soon.

Specializes in ICU.

We just got our first real test back in Chemistry and I got a 97.9! (technically I got a 93 but he allows us to redo the ones we got wrong and get 10% credit for them!) So the class average was a 72. I am so darn proud of myself! I was so worried before the test, and when we got our grades everyone was like...what the hell were you so worried about, obviously you know this stuff...and no, I didn't feel like I knew it. I was so overwhelmed and worried. What a relief I tell ya!

Darn! You beat me...I just got my first exam back and got a 96%. (I was scared that I did badly because the other day my prof was so upset and said the class as a whole did not do well and it seemed that many of us did not study) Boy did I make stupid mistakes, but oh well, I'm glad I have this cushion because the next exam is sure to be harder.

lol! I know how you feel. My prof said well there were 2 grades in the 90's 1 in the 80s blah blah blah and 2 below 60.

I figured I was either above 90 or below 60 lmao.

He just gave us a practice test for our next test and so I'm working on that now. My proffesor rocks I tell ya!

So does mine. She makes chemistry seem so easy.

I was so suprised on the first day of class when our professor gave us his home number and encourages us to use it (up until 10pm). I have never used it but some of my classmates have. I think that this is going the extra mile to help your students. If he has plans to be away for a weekend he tells us beforehand when he'll be back if we need him..lol.

Anywho, where in NY are you? I am Long Island born and raised but I moved upstate NY about 2 years ago.

I'm in Queens, born an raised...I'm also mentally drained right now, LOL

I'm taking chemistry and we just got our midterm grades about a week ago...I have an A...go me, go me!!!

Does anyone else feel like Chemistry is an emotional roller coaster? I guess they were serious when they said that the Nursing curriculum has its weeding-out classes because boy this sure is one! I am glad I REALLY want to be a nurse or I would surely not put my self through this mess, lol. I got a B for Mid-term which is a HUGE motivator, considering that I took the class last semester and got a AW I did so bad! But I CANNOT wait until Christmas break/end of the semester. I will finally be able to put this class behind me.....With an A of course!

I have a test early next week (by Wednesday) that I should be studying for right now instead of being online...

I am really nervous about this one. I just can't seem to get a few things locked into my head. I think doing so well on the last test is putting too much pressure on me to do it again and I don't know if I can this time.

* back to study time*

Yes, I will be thrilled to see this class over and done already.

What is an AW? A withdrawal?

I really like Chemistry, so it's an interesting (and yeah, often fun) course for me. But I see some of my fellow pre-nursing students having emotional breakdowns, crying, ranting, etc. when they don't do well on the tests. So much rides on doing well in Chem and the other sciences, in terms of getting into nursing school!

I do wish Chem teachers were better at relating Chemistry to biology and A&P. I know some teachers do, but most don't. They sort of spin in their chemistry orbit :) and forget to draw the connections out. Like when you do valance shells and covalent bonding and ionic bonding. I wish they'd spend more time talking about the way that hydrogen's and carbon's structures (for just 2 examples) help you understand *greatly* how and why those 2 elements act in a biological context. I find that a huge motivator -- being able to connect Chemistry with the important stuff in A&P so that I get a deeper understanding of both subjects.

Good luck to everyone on your next test!

I like chemistry to extent that I have had ALOT of my questons answered when it came to chemical equations, the periodic table, etc, I'm passing it with an "A" so far....Other than that I'm over it, I'm over this whole semester honestly...6 weeks left, thank goodness
