I'm hoping we can make this a sticky and have a new Chem group for Fall 2007. I'm starting August 23. I'm taking Chem (of course), A&P 1, and Nutrition. Anyone else up for a Chem group?
Good Luck to us All!!:yeahthat:
Hi,
Is there hope for me in Chemistry?
I returned back to school last year for the first time in probably 15 years. I got A- in my math class (learning all the basics I forgot like ratios, fractions, "math with letters", lol etc. & 100% (due to some extra credit) in my BIO 101 class. I scored very high in comprehension on the accuplacer test (test I took at school to help figure out what level I was at for EN, MA, etc.)
Anyways, I've never gotten less than an A on a test except 2 times a B+ in math. Anyways, I took my 1st Chem test on Monday, got the results today & I got a C+ (70%) !!!!!!!!!
I studied good & long & apparently my grade is 2% higher than the average for the class... so should I not worry about the test grade? I'm just freakin' about this.... I NEED to get a C or higher for my final grade in here & I'm not off to a good start!!!!!

Of course theres hope!!! First test are always the hardest becuase you dont know what the teacher is like and what the test is going to be like. After this test maybe you'll have a better idea of what to expect which will help you focus when studying.
C's arnt bad, and im sure your lab is probably a % of your grade, so that will help boost your grade and get you that C or higher for your final!
When I read the assigned chapter in my Chem text book I swear it is like reading greek. Anyone else have this problem.
I have that problem sometimes too. I read over the chapter, and work through the problems as i go through each section. Sometimes i find it a lot easier to figure out what the book is talking about if i try applying it to the problems right away.
Well actually I think it's alot of Latin...I wish I had learned Latin it earlier. It would have made learning easier.
I don't think chemistry is Latin nearly so much as is biology. I agree, though: I wish I'd had the opportunity to study Latin in HS.
Also wish I learned the Metric system earlier.
Ironically, the US is, or at least was, "officially" an SI ("metric") country thanks to our first (I think) engineer in the White House -- Jimmy Carter.
Too bad it's never been pushed. We're pretty much the only country left that's still using this dysfunctional, antiquated system of measurement.
Why is that, I wonder???
I dunno.
Mostly lack of political will, I'd imagine, as well as the former dominance of the American industrial and manufacturing base.
There was probably a lot of resistance from companies with large embedded costs in tooling who didn't want to change things.
As a kid, I remember there being some arrogance involved as well. "We're America... let them do it our way."
