Raynaud's & Decreased sensory perception in fingers
That's a good idea, so it isn't like I can't be a nurse if I can't feel that pulse...I know it sounds dumb to say but it can be pretty darn important to monitor those in a lot of cases!

Raynaud's & Decreased sensory perception in fingers
Hi all :) So, I was diagnosed 4 or 5 years ago with Raynaud's & now that I'm a nursing student I am having the WORST time finding pedal pulses!!!!! It drives me nuts does anyone else have decreased sensory perception in their finger tips or any other disability that makes it difficult to find someone's pulse, especially the more difficult ones? I don't know what to do, do I tell my instructor? Am I going to be failed if I can't feel the pedal pulse? I can feel the radial pulses, but not as quickly as some. Thanks! Any suggestions welcome :) I already have a handicap placard for winter months, I wear mittens, have disposable heaters, keep the heat in the house at 74, etc. I just don't know what to do about having a decreased sense of touch.

First time observing in the OR question
Thanks for the input I LOVED it, it was pretty neat...not a problem. I can see how the mast could pose a problem if you're not used to them. I got to see a laminectomy & a anterior C5-6 & C6-7 fusion.

Does anyone use a little laptop/notebook for clinical prep at clinical location?
Thank you for your input everyone, I appreciate it! I decided to ask if I can use a digital voice recorder & read aloud (I'm in a private room usually & I of course would not be reading any information aloud that would identify a patient....same precautions as putting info on a piece of paper!). I am required to write all of that stuff down :) I have to write ALL of the meds they get, whether I pass them or not & am required to fill out a med sheet on all of them :) I'm good with that....I am here to learn after all!

First time observing in the OR question
I saw the thread by the way in the stickies....awesome! Anyway, I will take the necessary precautions in regards to fainting....however - have any of you who were excited about it & love that kind of stuff ended up passing out anyway...totally thinking you'd be fine? I'm so excited!

No we actually have to write it all out! My hand cramps up & it takes forever. This is all the info we have to hand write, as well as all meds & abnormal labs and it doesn't look like much, but this is condensed - filling it in would require a ton more space of course. My hand is killing me from all the writing & writing so fast at clinicals! On prep day, we pull the patient's chart up on the computer at the clinical location & hand write a zillion things as quickly as possible, including all their meds (which are often 20+) & labs, pt. Hx, physician notes, orders, diagnoses, etc. I was thinking it'd be SO much faster & easier to have a little notebook (electronic) that I can type all that information into instead of trying to get it all written down. Does anyone do that or have some tips? Thanks!

Female nursing student with questions
Hello gents! So... I'm a 30-something year old mom, and in my first nursing class with the assignment of asking a few questions for a presentation I'm doing on any nurses who have graduated from any of the following; LPN, RN, BSN, MSN, PHD, and Nurse Practitioner. I have a few interviews from female nurses but none from the guys and I'm REALLY curious about your take on these things and any information that you feel I may have left out, being female and all! So, I hope I can get some of you to answer these 12 questions for me! Thank you a TON!!! What was the hardest part about going to school? What is most memorable about your initial licensure nurse? Where was your first job? What kind of feelings did you experience? What other places have you worked? What kind of nursing job do you find most enjoyable? Why did you get into the profession? What do you wish you had known before you got into a nursing program? What suggestions do you have that would enhance the success in nursing school? Is there anything specific that you feel nurses need to have more emphasis on in their training? If you were training nurses, if you had it your way, they'd all learn a lot about.... What kinds of things in your profession make going to school to be a nurse worth the while? What is nursing education like now compared to when you went to school (if a long time ago)?

I have a few questions for NP's or MSNs
Hi! I am a nursing student and I have a presentation to do that requires asking some questions to any nurses out there who have gotten liscensure as a Nurse Practitioner or have Masters in nursing. Actually, I have to find these things out from 1 of each program in nursing, so LPN, RN, BSN, MSN, and Nurse Practioner! They are basically your opinion about some things. So, if there is anyway I could get a few of you to answer these questions... Thank you!!!!!:bowingpur What is nursing education like now compared to when you went to school to get become a Nurse? Chem Fall 2007
- Chem Fall 2007
Hi, Is there hope for me in Chemistry? I returned back to school last year for the first time in probably 15 years. I got A- in my math class (learning all the basics I forgot like ratios, fractions, "math with letters", lol etc. & 100% (due to some extra credit) in my BIO 101 class. I scored very high in comprehension on the accuplacer test (test I took at school to help figure out what level I was at for EN, MA, etc.) Anyways, I've never gotten less than an A on a test except 2 times a B+ in math. Anyways, I took my 1st Chem test on Monday, got the results today & I got a C+ (70%) !!!!!!!!! I studied good & long & apparently my grade is 2% higher than the average for the class... so should I not worry about the test grade? I'm just freakin' about this.... I NEED to get a C or higher for my final grade in here & I'm not off to a good start!!!!!- Can you sue your instructor?
I wish! I'd actually like to sue my school for allowing me to pay them for this instuctor to teach. He's so bad at teaching that on our last test, 25 out of 30 got a D or failed. It's the schools fault, in my opinion, because they knew that last semester 50 of 70 students dropped out of his class & only 12 of the ones left even passed it! I am just starting school (I'm 32, stay at home mom, it's been 15+ years) so it's ONLY basic algebra.....nothing confusing or crazy....it shouldn't be that hard to pass his test! Fortunatly for me, I had taken the accuplacer test at school & the highest you can score on comprehension is 12, I got 11.? (something) & I have a A+ in BIO & last semester I only got 3 wrong on my intro to algebra final exam....so clearly it's not me. It cost me $568 for the class, & so far, I dished out $460 in child care, just for that class....if it wasn't for that class, I wouldn't have childcare. Anyways....blah blah blah....! - thinadvisable- Chemistry 2006/ 2007 Club***
I want to take just chemistry (101) this summer, I'm a 32 yr. old SAH-mom & have to take that & the HESI so I can get onto the ADN waiting list. I'm worried about being able to do good in the class because it's a semester of learning packed into a much shorter span. How difficult is it? I'm taking Math 104 to brush up on algebra stuff & a biology class starting tomorrow. I got an A in the previous class. I just don't know what to do for a class this summer because I don't want to take a break but I don't want to not do very good either. I could take a Psychology (basics) class or a basic sociology class....or English 101...I just don't know which will be the easiest.- Detroit Tigers
