Charting Systems

I have used PowerChart, Epic, Citrix, TDS and Meditech... and paper charting of course.

Of these, Meditech is THE WORST! (actually TDS was but thankfully the facility quickly changed over to EPIC after I arrived) The facility I am in is still using Meditech 5.3(something like that) and its inadequacies are so frustrating. We've been promised 6.0 for some time but the date keeps getting pushed back.

Among my complaints:

This DOS-based format is absurd

You have to close everything you're doing to look up something else

It's difficult to track past orders, therefore we still do half-half paper orders

It's impossible to view data trends

Have any of you worked with this particular EMR?

My hospital uses MEDITECH.. I just knew that there was something wrong with this software.. difficulty in tracking orders and past medical records of patients.. You have to click and click and follow tabs before you arrive at what you are looking for even if it was an order put in 10mins ago and that is if you are lucky... Aint nobody got time for that!! It just makes e-charting seem like a nightmare.... just saying...

I'm using the meditech dos version at my place of employment and it's terrible!!!! I've used the newest version of meditech as a nursing student and I think it would be so much better for the hospital than the crap they have us using. Forgive my language, buy my goodness.

I prefer the EDM for the ER tons better than using the charting on the floor. We have 6-7 patients on the floors and I'm trying to get used to the charting on med/surg. It takes me 30 minutes to chart on one patient, that's 3 hours of charting. Whoever coded this shenanigans is an evil, evil person. =/ When I was a nursing student, with the newer meditech, I'd finish charting on one patient in 5 minutes. Ugh, I'm frustrated and dreading work tomorrow. ='(

I have used EPIC (which is okay, never used it from an ER standpoint, though), Citrix, Cerner, FirstNet and Meditech. I loved FirstNet. I know it's not "the best" out there for the ER but after dealing with Meditech I miss it terribly. I DESPISE Meditech...no easy tracking of orders, you can't just minimize a screen to look at something else, and you have to click through a bunch of screens just to get to what you're looking for. The version I use at my facility is DOS-based and it's an eyesore.

We use Medhost in the ER where I work. I freaking love it!!! Best charting system ever. God, I hope we never have to get rid of it.

We use Medhost in our ED. Best charting system ever. Point and click, very simple to use

I've used Meditech (hate it with a passion), PowerChart, FirstNet, and Epic. I like some things about PowerChart (such as how labs are displayed) better than Epic, but I like Epic too. Right now, I'm using FirstNet and Epic.

Oh, lord, So many still using the DOS-based MediTech.. I am so sorry..

I used MediTech DOS-based when I first started, we switched to the web-based, which was a thousand times better, but still really muddled and difficult to navigate, since most of the stuff is buried under various menus and folders and everything takes 20 clicks to get through. Information in general is really hard to find, and looking for it bogs down a lot of time.

Currently, the facility I'm at uses Epic, which I like more than MediTech. Ours actually is integrated with Alaris for pumps and most of the Rovers we use for vitals and ICU, so that's actually very handy. It all talks really well to the technology, and it's *mostly* user-friendly. More user-friendly than MediTech for sure.

Of those three, I prefer Epic, since the information seems a lot easier to access, and it seems to integrate well with other systems.

I'm currently doing online training for Meditech and was wondering if people felt the way I did. I almost shed a tear! :nailbiting: Different modules to open up and view things in different places and clicking on arrows to go back and whatnot. OMG! All of this text in black and white! It definitely took me back to the 80s on IBM computers with floppy disks! LOL! I guess it's not the MS DOS version though b/c you are able to mouse click on things. I asked someone how it compared to what I currently use (Sunrise, as someone else stated, AWESOME!) and they said it was horrible. I didn't think it was this bad...but I suppose if it's all you know, then whatever works. Hopefully, once I actually work with the system, it will be easier to navigate. I think that if I were in the ED, it would be easier than on the regular units. I can only imagine the nightmare it'd be in ICU charting every hour! Hats off to those in ICU using this!

Meditech blows! Ridiculous amount of opening and closing windows, time consuming, not good at all for ER. All my coworkers and myself hate it. Cheap, not nurse friendly at all. Meditech may work well on the floor nursing, but no way is it fast enough for ER.
