2011 Charles drew university Clinical nurse leader EL-MSN

Published

Hello,

I'm new to this board and just recently got an email to attend an interview for the clinical nurse leader - entry level masters of nursing next week at Charles drew university. I was wondering if anyone else has gotten an interview? I would like to talk to some of you interested in attending this program. I visited the campus and spoke to some faculty, it seems like an amazing place. Look forward to talking to some of you in the same boat as I am in.

Sincerely,

Ms1988

Yea I got the health/orientation email this morning, then I just got another one a few hours later. I wonder if they'll tell us about books before orientation, because I would like to order them online for cheaper and glance at them at least before having to dive full force in.

I asked them about the books and theyre actually included in the tuition... that means all books for all classes will be provided, and also yea we do start clinicals right away... so for anyone thats looking into working during school (including myself) classes are Mon - Thurs typically 9-5 and then one more clinical rotation day that is either an 8 hour day or 12 hour day... intense... im still trying to work though.. :\ i might do tutoring after classes couple days a week and working Sunday clinics at this pediatric office i work in currently... anyone else same boat?

Included books!:yeah: Thanks for informing us of that, it's definitely good to hear. I am considering working, but I'm not sure. I'll have a better idea of if I will after the first weeks of school and exams. It's doable as long as you are focused and get everything done asap (from what I hear from people who've gone through other nursing programs, not this one). It's all up to what you know you can handle individually. They do seem like they have a very good Learning Resource Center and will offer a hand as long as you put forward the effort.

I'm so excited to start. Going to take these next few weeks to try to relax and enjoy life, family, and friends as much as I can. Oh yea and get this physical done.

That's great that books are included. Totally awesome! If I get enough loans then I just might not work, as I'm in a position to do so. I wonder if they're sending out orientation notifications based off interview dates. I interviewed july 11th

Maybe check your spam folder or call them Monday morning to make sure they got record of your deposit. I interviewed the 11th as well and got an email this morning. They did say they were sending another more detailed email about orientation by early next week, so you should definitely get that.

First, I just sometimes I dislike my phone. I wrote this whole thing and my finger tips hit the wrong thing and vanished it went. Just had to get that off my chest. This is the condense version.

I didn't get my email either but will follow up Monday. Good to know about the books. I decided not to work this semester. I think a 9-5 school schedule is doable. I'm use to the 9-5 work schedule then studying for 2-3 hours at least 5 days out the week. As long as we stay on top of things, we will be find. From reading the different forums, many have gone to while working and having a family. Time management appears to be the key.

I wonder where we're placed for clinicals?

Yea it was a nice relief not to stress about the required reading, I am looking into supplemental books https://allnurses.com/general-nursing-student/books-every-nursing-483920.html, (I created a wish list if anyone is interested) Im so excited :)..

Clinical rotations will also be in a hospital.. one of the ones they mentioned to me was Cedars Sinai.

Thanks hardworkpaysoff, I will call them monday to check on things.

Layleebug, Cedars is nice but I hope they reopen drew trauma center soon

Yea with the new management and everything the drew trauma center will be an ideal place to get real experience.. although I think it might take a while for the drew center to gain its reputation back with the community- but I'm not too worried about that, it will happen.

I was looking at the charles drew catalog and saw a break down of our tuition. Below is how they break it down. what I'm wondering is if this is all included for what we pay for tuition except cost traveling to clinical sites.

trying not to ask this question without sounding politically incorrect... are any of you guys who were accepted caucasian? im thinking about applying but ive looked at the statistics that they only have 8% white nonhispanic students and that makes me think my chances are slim. any input? thanks a lot.

Hey! I doubt they factor in race. Doing so would be a crime. I think its because the school is one year old, at least. Its possible that the people that applied to the program are either from the area or have family/friends who are closely associated to the area
