Hello,
I'm new to this board and just recently got an email to attend an interview for the clinical nurse leader - entry level masters of nursing next week at Charles drew university. I was wondering if anyone else has gotten an interview? I would like to talk to some of you interested in attending this program. I visited the campus and spoke to some faculty, it seems like an amazing place. Look forward to talking to some of you in the same boat as I am in.
Sincerely,
Ms1988
Purpelle, I received my award letter because I went up to campus yesterday. I'm going out of town for a few days and I wanted to have everything done before I gave my notice at work.
My package is all loans: Stafford Subsidized and Unsubsidized, Grad Plus. I hoping I don't have to take out any additional loans. I'm also looking into to applying for scholarships but from my research most of the awards aren't available until 2012. I hope I can live off the Grad Plus loans and not take out additional private loans. My back up plan (which is not really a back up plan) is to pull out the money in my retirement, which most people say is a reallllyy bad idea because of the penalty fees. I believe the only good reason to do that is to buy a house or used it towards one's education. The whole thing is completely scary. I wished I would have done a few less pedicures and eating out and more saving while I was working on the pre-reqs and had a good job. Oh well, now I will have a mortage payment without the house, after I graduate. :) But, it will all be worth it! Anyway, we will all be so close, I'm sure we can save money on food by having tons of potlucks.
I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone. Purpelle do you know what tests, vaccinations we need to have? Is there a list somewhere?

You ain't neva lied LOL. I did the calculations though (Im just going to put the figure out there). I took all the loans they offered me which equals the total cost of expenses 45k (WTH, I never even MADE 45k a year since Im fresh out of UG) BUT for these two semesters only and IF i were able to work in an under served community then 45 x .08 = 36,000 so 45,000 - 36,000 = 9,000 repayment from me. I'm shooting on the low end because I hear that some hospitals will repay up to 90% of your loans. So in total I may be 14k in debt which is very much OK to me.
I was thinking that maybe since I'm not working then I can apply for an EBT card...that's what they should be in use for anyway IMO, and that's broke college students.
I'm not sure what advice to give you about taking the money out your retirement plan but the way this economy is going (and with SS possibly being unavailable to us) I'd say you have to do what you need to do to survive. I had individual books total $180 in UG so I'm wary to see how much they will cost now. Hopefully they let us use a later text and allow for books to get here from the internet because I plan on using ABEbooks.com
this is too much to think about. I don't even know what IZ's they want us to have or what type of Physical Exam (maybe just a RPE) Its kind of unfair that they are waiting so long to give us our info packet/orientation because we really are left in the dark right now
I'm not sure. I was wondering the same thing. Typically, I don't think the award letter includes summer.
I was looking at the curriculum online and it looks like we start clinicals right away. I guess we will need to buy scrubs.
BTW, has anyone received an email about orientation? I was told it would be sent out this week.
Bawss
