Charity School of Nursing (SON) Fall 2015

U.S.A. Louisiana

Published

Is there anyone else applying to Charity SON for Fall of 2015 (RN)? LOL, everything is so quiet. I thought I'd go ahead and start a thread so we can give help and support. Good luck, everyone!

I wish mine was higher too.

What is your score??

It's a 65 but I' m apply to Lpn to RN program summer.

What's your profile score?

Hey everyone! Thought I'd join in on the conversation. Is anyone applying for LSU as well? I'm curious if anyone knows which clinical rotations LSU does vs which ones Charity offers. Like nursing home, med surg, peds, psych, etc. Does anyone know?

also, @Susan, I think I ran into you on the 15th when you were dropping your app off. Hope you're doing well! If I'm thinking of someone else then just ignore this :)

No I ' m just applying to Charity that's it.

@becca, did we ride back down in the elevator together?

@BeccaBeth I applied to LSU as well but I'm not sure about the rotations. From what I've heard from other people, LSU does more lectures than clinicals. I don't think I'm going to make it because I didn't complete chemistry before applying, but I'm taking it this semester. I'm hoping to hear something soon, I really hate all this waiting!

I'm applying to LSU as well. This is my second time applying to both schools. The waiting is the worse!!

@Susan, Yep! I thought it might be you. :)

@slorificen, I've heard that LSU does more lectures as well, but I didn't know if it was just perceived that way since LSU's program is longer. I will have to e-mail both schools and see if they can tell me how many total clinical hours each program has.

@mlobre, The waiting really is the worst! I'm taking classes this semester and feel so unmotivated. I need some reassurance, haha.

Another question! Does anyone know any recent Charity grads and how long it took them to find a job/where and what unit they work on? I'm going for my RN to BSN right after Charity if I decide not to go to/don't get accepted at LSU, just to be more competitive since (unfortunately) it seems like a lot of hospitals are moving towards "BSN preferred/only" new grad nurses. I'm not sure how New Orleans hospitals are about that, but I've noticed like Ochsner job postings have "BSN preferred" in most of them. Hopefully with the new hospitals they will be less picky, ha.

@Beccabeth

No! You must not become unmotivated! Finish strong and focus because doing so will be a great source of reassurance. Nothing gets me going like pulling good grades even when life isn't blissful. You got this!

Hey, @Marshall, thanks so much for the encouraging words! I think it just gets discouraging thinking about how much longer I have. I'm so ready to start the nursing part of school but just as excited to just be done so I can start working. Oh well, I'm sure I'll get over it, haha.

Hows the waiting been for you? You applied to LSU, right?

The waiting is surprisingly okay. I fooled around my first two years of undergrad and if I had known I wanted to go into nursing I'd be on or near my last year of nursing school. Once I did decide on nursing, I basically had to start from scratch on the pre reqs which meant another 3 semesters to wait before I really started doing the "fun" stuff. It's helped me develop a lot of patience! Even if I get wait-listed, I'll just keep on pushing for next semester :) Besides, what's a nurse without "patients"! Forgive my dad-jokes.
