  1. Has anyone else gotten an e-mail about Soph I semester dues in their LSUHSC e-mail? Does anyone know what the money is for and if it's a requirement? I can't find any information in the New Student tab on the website. Thanks!
  2. Hey guys, LSUHSC updated the new student link with all the info we need. Anyone know if they had uniforms last semester too?
  3. I live in New Orleans. You will definitely need a car for clinicals, unless you can set up some kind of carpooling thing? But I don't believe clinicals start until the second semester, so you might be able to hold off a bit.
  4. Oh my gosh, you guys. I was freaking about not getting my letter the last few days. Turns out my boyfriend brought the mail to his car and forgot about it! I'm in!
  5. Anyone have their interview yet? Any tips on which questions they asked? It's so quiet in here! :)
  6. hey, keylimesqueez, thanks for the info! I have also applied to both and have my interview with LSU coming up soon. So nervous! Could you tell us a bit more about why you chose Charity over LSU? I really want to go to Charity but I'm just worried about quickly landing a job after graduating, with all the scary talk about ASNs being less desirable.
  7. Hey, @Marshall, thanks so much for the encouraging words! I think it just gets discouraging thinking about how much longer I have. I'm so ready to start the nursing part of school but just as excited to just be done so I can start working. Oh well, I'm sure I'll get over it, haha. Hows the waiting been for you? You applied to LSU, right?
  8. @Susan, Yep! I thought it might be you. :) @slorificen, I've heard that LSU does more lectures as well, but I didn't know if it was just perceived that way since LSU's program is longer. I will have to e-mail both schools and see if they can tell me how many total clinical hours each program has. @mlobre, The waiting really is the worst! I'm taking classes this semester and feel so unmotivated. I need some reassurance, haha. Another question! Does anyone know any recent Charity grads and how long it took them to find a job/where and what unit they work on? I'm going for my RN to BSN right after Charity if I decide not to go to/don't get accepted at LSU, just to be more competitive since (unfortunately) it seems like a lot of hospitals are moving towards "BSN preferred/only" new grad nurses. I'm not sure how New Orleans hospitals are about that, but I've noticed like Ochsner job postings have "BSN preferred" in most of them. Hopefully with the new hospitals they will be less picky, ha.
  9. Hey everyone! Thought I'd join in on the conversation. Is anyone applying for LSU as well? I'm curious if anyone knows which clinical rotations LSU does vs which ones Charity offers. Like nursing home, med surg, peds, psych, etc. Does anyone know? also, @Susan, I think I ran into you on the 15th when you were dropping your app off. Hope you're doing well! If I'm thinking of someone else then just ignore this :)
  10. Phew! I eventually finished it. It's not so easy writing something so personal. I think I'd choose a research paper over that! :)
  11. Anyone applying to LSUHSC's BSN program for the Fall? I haven't seen a thread started (unless I missed it). Getting a late start since I'm still trying to write my essay, grr. Good luck to everyone applying! :)
  12. Hey guys, I'm currently preparing for nursing school, but my long-term dream job is to be a NICU nurse and eventually an NNP. I know it's a ways off, but I'm just curious if anyone has heard anything about several NNP programs closing? I can only find a handful searching Google, and many seem to be phasing out their MSN programs in favor of DNP programs, or just no longer offering an NNP track at all. Even many of the programs on the NNP programs thread on this board are no longer offered. I know the push for the DNP implementation by 2015 is around, but I'm kind of concerned by how most of the programs seem to be disappearing completely! Does anyone have any insight? Thanks!
  13. Hey guys, I'm currently taking prerequisites for nursing classes at Delgado and was wondering how recent grads from Charity are doing looking for jobs in the New Orleans area. I've heard a lot about ADN programs being phased out and ADN grads looked down upon across the country, which is worrisome, but I'm not sure how it is locally. Ideally I plan on finishing my ADN and doing an RN-BSN online bridge program after so I can start working as soon as possible. Have any of you guys had trouble finding hospital jobs in New Orleans with an ADN? I'd appreciate any input. Thanks!
