Changes in personality since you became a nurse?

I was just curious to find out from those who have received either their RN or LPN, if they've undergone some personality trait changes. Primarily, before going to nursing school you were more on the quiet side, shy maybe, if after time working as a nurse, you're surprised at how you may have changed...

I thought of something else that's different about me...and this part my hubby likes...I'm no where near as shy when it comes to discussing, um, bedroom stuff...hehehehehe (giggles nervously and turns beet red) :D

I think I have more patience with patients and less patience with my loved ones.........especially my poor boyfriend who gets the brunt of it all.

I know what you mean, Walmart--Adn. My older brother was in the NAVY and I make him blush. How did that happen? I have always been assertive, and I definitely have always had a warped sense of humor. However, I do suffer fools well. The winers and wimps make me nuts, esp when they bring it on themselves( the 23 yr old complaining of mouth pain after having her tongue pierced, the 20 yr old griping that he had to wait too long in the ER, and he is there for his 3rd STD) These people bring out the worst in me( which is pretty bad)

I beg to differ. Over the course of a decade, I've become a raving lunatic. Total personality change. LOL

Actually, I agree. Our inherent personalities are our personalities. But over a long period of time I have changed a lot of our I think, act and respond. So it does appear I'm a completely different person. I'm not the same person I was when I entered nursing.

I've expereinced growth and change in other areas too, not just nursing. As long as I remain open to learn, I'm growing and changing. Plus I'm just flat out getting old and tired.

I always have had a twisted sense of humor, my potty mouth has gotten much worse, & I say no with less guilt than I used to.

I still have the tendency to take things personally, and to get tearry eyed when I am so highly p*ssed off.

I thought it was just me who had got more warped,less patient with whiners and 100% more self assured/extrovert.

I think the self assurance is part of growing up,but I wonder if some of it is due to having patient advocacy.We have to stick up for others,so we learn to stick up for ourselves.

Either that, or inside every introverted student nurse there is a mouthy,confident,sometimes scarey,registered nurse just about bursting to escape!!!

Well, here's another 'sweet southern girl' who's changed. Much more outgoing, assertive, and the weird sense of humor to go along with it. Went from blushing when my older brothers used to tease me to actually making one of them blush the other day!!!!! And all of this after only 2&1/2 years as an RN!!!
