I just applied to Northern Illinois University and they're the only school I'm applying to. I'm worried about getting in or not because I know they accept less transfers than students already at NIU.
By the time they review my application and transcripts I will have 7/9 prerequisites completed:
-Anatomy and Physiology I and Anatomy and Physiology II
-Communications
-Chemistry
-Psychology
-Psychology Throughout the Lifespan
-Nutrition
-Probability and Statistics
My prereq GPA is a 4.0 and my accumulative GPA is 3.9. I also took Medical Terminologyand received an A in that, though it's not required for NIU.
NIU also looks at the Reading Accuplacer Test, which I scored a 110/120 on.
I know not having all of the prerequisutes done will hurt me but I'm hoping my decent Accuplacer score and getting all A's in my prereqs makes up for that.
Do you think I have a good chance of getting in?

Having all of the prereq courses done was a hard rule for my program no matter how good other scores/grades were. I wouldn't expect them to admit students who haven't finished those courses ahead of another who has. We even had a different application status if we were applying while still in a prereq, they didn't announce anything until after the end of that semester in case anyone failed a prereq they were still taking when they applied.
Wow that program seems pretty strict! NIU's program isn't nearly as strict I believe. It says you should have at least 5 of the 9 done, perferrably more. I think it'll just depend on the applicant pool.

My school allowed us to apply without all the prerequisite courses completed but it is extremely unlikely to be accepted without the prerequisite courses complete. I think it is just a factor of having so many highly qualified applicants.

My school is the same. You had to finish everything, take the HESI and then apply. If you don't get in I would apply again after you finish everything. Your gpa is great so if you keep it up you should have no trouble getting in.

That's a strict program! Have you tried applying to out of state Nursing Programs? Although private schools are quite expensive, some private schools accept you as long as you have taken your HESI.

It's probably a good idea to look at a number of schools- rather than pinning your hopes on just one. Not putting all your eggs in one basket and all.

Did you get into NIU? I heard it is a competitive program and just applied for ***** and giggles thinking I wouldn't get in-especially as a transfer student. I was accepted. Now I'm kind of freaking out, because this wasn't "the plan" I had set in my mind. I'm super excited though!
