Chance of getting into CEP?

Published

Hi everyone, I originally put in my application for a traditional spot at MCC, however Just found out that by the time I would get in they will be 100% CEP. So now I am thinking about applying for CEP. However, my GPA is only a 3.1 and HESI scores are 90 on math and 88 on English. I have no previous degrees. What is the likelihood that I would get into MCC and UIU or Ottawa? Would getting a CNA license help? Thanks!

From what I've read, CEP has gotten really competitive. I would boost your GPA up by retaking some classes and shooting for all A's. When I applied, being a CNA didn't help. Also, everyone got in, but that's really not the case now.

don't apply to just mcc. Apply to Scottsdale, phoenix, and gateway, you have the best chances there. Also, UIU has never rejected a student as long as they mer the requirements, its the maricopa college. you cannot just keep mcc you will wait forever to get in, and like you said by then they won't even take you.

And CNA has nothing to do with applying, but once you get in it really helps in block 1!!

The CEP is very competitive. As long as you meet the University requirements, you'll get accepted to the online University classes. It's the Community College that will be a challenge. There is no rudeness meant when I say your scores aren't very competitive; I'm simply being realistic to tell you that you are up against people who are submitting GPAs in the very high 3's, if not 4.0, and HESI scores in the upper 90's. Additionally, many people applying have previous degrees that seems to be giving them an edge.

So - my suggestion would be that you aim to get your GPA up to a minimum of 3.5 and re-take your HESI and aim for 95%+ in all areas. I know that's a lot of work, but unfortunately that is the reality of the situation.

Additionally, as another poster suggested, widen your college applications. You can apply to up to 3 colleges, I believe, so that will help you up your chances.

Take a look at your classes and decide which ones need most improvement, and focus on those.

Good luck!

Agree on widening your school options. Be willing to not only apply to MCC but consider Scottsdale, CGCC & even GWCC. Does it suck if you have to travel out a little farther, yes, but still east side & it will be worth it.

I live closest to Estrella, but also put in for Glendale & PHX & got into Glendale my first try. Previous posters have also given solid advice. Good luck!

I travel from i 10 and warner to scottsdale cc because thats where a spot was and i didn't care where i got in as long as i got in. best decision i ever made! plus scc is amazing!

When I submitted my application, the advisor said something along those lines too - basically, if you want this bad enough, you'll put up with the drive for 2 years. And she was right, even though I grizzled at the thought of potentially driving to Phoenix college from the West Valley! :o

I live literally 2 minutes from Estrella and drive to GWCC. It's not too bad.

Depends on who's applying. Last semester the advisor thought I was a sure thing with my stats and I didn't make it. Now I can't even remember my scores, but I had a GPA of 3.6 and around 94% on hesi. This enrollment, I have a 3.8 and an associates in science. I retook the hesi and scored 100 in math and 94 again in grammar (curse the English language).

At this point, understanding that over 200 applicants applied for the same program per school, it is very possible that I still don't make the cut. It just depends. I say go for it and while waiting do what you can to improve your application for the following round if you don't get accepted. You don't lose points or value by applying and not getting accepted.

I seem to recall your posts from the last round of acceptance when you didn't get in...how inspiring that you didn't give up though, and instead worked to improve your chances! Where are you applying to this time?

Yeah I really don't mind the drive - it's almost the same drive to Glendale or Estrella for me. Phoenix CC is a little further, but nothing I can't tolerate. Heck, I'd drive to Mesa if I had to!
