Chance of getting into CEP?

Hi everyone, I originally put in my application for a traditional spot at MCC, however Just found out that by the time I would get in they will be 100% CEP. So now I am thinking about applying for CEP. However, my GPA is only a 3.1 and HESI scores are 90 on math and 88 on English. I have no previous degrees. What is the likelihood that I would get into MCC and UIU or Ottawa? Would getting a CNA license help? Thanks!

Where did you apply to? Glendale? Your GPA and HESI scores were excellent, as well as having the AA Degree....I would be floored if you don't get in!

MCC and Scottsdale. It's weird, last enrollment I had received several emails from the university (Ottawa) and even a phone call. This go around, I received nothing. I am worried that my email or application was turned in wrong. I'll call an advisor to see, but last time I did that they said they don't have any of that information (as to who is or is not accepted). But ya, I'll be pretty bummed. I did everything possible to increase my chances. If I don't get in, I'll try to apply for ASU nursing as a transfer student (if that is even possible).

I applied to Ottawa too, and I didn't receive anything from them either. I ended up emailing the advisor at Ottawa directly to confirm they'd received my CEP application.

me careful with applying to mesa... they have a lot of students who pick them as a first or second choice. better off choosing phoenix or scottsdale. way better chance!

You should also check nclex pass rates. I would assume that the community college with the higher pass rates would be more competitive but it could also be because the area is more convenient for more people.

The CEP is very competitive. As long as you meet the University requirements, you'll get accepted to the online University classes. It's the Community College that will be a challenge. There is no rudeness meant when I say your scores aren't very competitive; I'm simply being realistic to tell you that you are up against people who are submitting GPAs in the very high 3's, if not 4.0, and HESI scores in the upper 90's. Additionally, many people applying have previous degrees that seems to be giving them an edge.

So - my suggestion would be that you aim to get your GPA up to a minimum of 3.5 and re-take your HESI and aim for 95%+ in all areas. I know that's a lot of work, but unfortunately that is the reality of the situation.

Additionally, as another poster suggested, widen your college applications. You can apply to up to 3 colleges, I believe, so that will help you up your chances.

Take a look at your classes and decide which ones need most improvement, and focus on those.

As an update to my original post, the rubric for the CEP has changed. You can read about it here:

Some of the changes I have spotted include that you can now only apply to ONE university - so be sure to do your research on them all to select the one that works best for you! Also, it looks as if you can only select TWO Maricopa colleges (I think it used to be 3). So - again, be sure to select the ones that you want to attend.

Additionally, it looks as if you can no longer have any work in progress. When I applied you were allowed to have a certain number of credits in progress with the university. That is no longer the case -they now need to be completed.

The scoring rubric for having a previous degree is now generic - it is 2 points, regardless of which type of degree you have (it used to be staggered, I believe, with more points for a higher degree).

There may be additional changes I haven't noticed, of course, and I may have misunderstood some of the changes - so be sure to check with the college nursing advisor rather than take my word for it. However, there have definitely been changes, so be sure that you meet all the requirements before you apply!

Also - one final note - when you go in for advice - be sure to ask for the nursing advisor. I ended up with a regular advisor, and they weren't much help at all. The nursing advisor is an entirely separate advisor...it is its own animal! LOL!
