Chamberlain North Brunswick Fall 2021

Published

Hi everyone! I thought it might be helpful to create this since all posts about this campus are pretty old.

Anyone already accepted or planning to apply??

For those who got accepted, how were your previous credentials if you had any from previous institutes. Also, how was the HESI? This will be my first time taking it. Is the schools acceptance rate high/what do they weigh heaviest on? I was at a previous institute (not for nursing) and don’t have the highest GPA. I feel like there is such a lack of information on Chamberlain, I wish I knew more people that have graduated, or are enrolled now.  Sorry for so many questions LOL! I’m feeling a little anxious about the whole process.

Have you been studying? If so what have you been doing?

I’ve been studying a ton of different quizlets for the past couple weeks. I've been trying to study mostly anatomy because I feel like that’s where I’m the most rusty. The quizlet set I’m using is about 250 terms and apparently a lot of the questions are word for word. I’m going to try and look for practice tests before Friday and maybe take one or two of them just to feel out how I do.

Hi!

Full transparency - I didn’t do well in undergrad. My GPA was 2.78. I retook a few classes that were prerequisites for some other nursing programs at my local community college and did well (all A’s) in those courses. I ended up being able to transfer in all of those credits at Chamberlain.

THE HESI isn’t bad but I think I had a slight advantage having recently retaken a few science courses. But I still spent most of my time focusing on A&P, chem and bio. The math section is pretty straightforward; I highly recommend reviewing conversions, which I wasn’t super familiar with. And I didn’t spend much time studying grammar/reading comp. I also really really recommend the premium package from Union Test Prep. It’s $9 and they give you A LOT of practice tests and questions as well as explanations. In terms of scoring, I received a 96 but after Chamberlain’s weighting I ended up with a 92 I believe. I’m not sure how they weigh each section though.

I totally agree that there is almost no information on Chamberlain from current or previous students. I was only recently accepted a few weeks ago, so I can totally relate to how you feel as I’m still figuring things out on my own more or less still. I was super worried about my low GPA but I think Chamberlain is willing to give students a second chance. I know this whole process is nerve wracking but hang in there, you got this! Good luck and let me know if I can be of any further help ?

Thank you so much for your reply! It was honestly so helpful, and made me feel a lot better knowing that I’m not the only one feeling a little crazy about the whole process. After taking the HESI, how quickly did you find out that you were accepted? I already met with my advisor and did my transcript evaluation, so I think the HESI is the next/only thing left for me. Also, do you definitely plan on attending this upcoming semester? If so, did you register for classes? What does the semester look like? Online virtual? In class? 5 days a week? I live about an hour away from the campus so I was wondering (if accepted), if I could condense my classes into 2-3 days. Sorry for all the questions! Just a lot of thinking ahead!

No problem at all, glad I could help! I took my HESI on a Friday and got a call early the following week from my admissions advisor letting me know my score. I also set up a meeting with my student support advisor to review my expected financial costs and which of my credits transferred in. I was then told the committee had to review my transcripts (which took longer than initially anticipated). So I finally got the call with my acceptance about 2ish weeks after I took my HESI. I then met with my student advisor again to discuss my financial plan again and they showed me what my schedule would look like with my anticipated completion date after my academic credits were transferred in. She also helped me set up my student portal/email and the website to begin uploading all the necessary documents they require. I then set up my fingerprinting & drug test immediately after with the admissions advisor. Currently I'm working on uploading all of the documents onto the website and waiting to sign up for courses. I emailed my student advisor yesterday and she told me registration for the campus isn't open yet, but that she would update me.

So in short, no I have no idea what the semester will look like! I'm in FB groups and some students say it's taking a while because they are trying to figure out if to hold courses online or in person? But I do know all general education requirements (eg. psych, sociology) are online regardless. I'm going to be in the evening/weekend program so I'm not sure how much my schedule will differ from day students but I believe on site classes would be maybe once or twice a week? I also live a bit of a distance from campus and have to coordinate with my work schedule as well so I understand it being a lot to consider! Unfortunately, I'm still in the dark about the timing and frequency of the courses, but when I find out I can definitely let you know! I'm trying to be as detailed as possible to help you and others because I know how limited the information is about Chamberlain and particularly this campus, so please don't hesitate to ask me anything else if you need to!

Do you remember what content areas were on the HESI?

Hi Taylor!

Whats tested on the HESI is English, Math, and Science. The breakdown of those is in the English portion there’s a reading comprehension section, vocabulary and general knowledge section, and grammar section. In the Math portion they are just testing basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, measurements, etc.). In the Science portion, it’s broken down into a biology section, Chemistry section, and anatomy and physiology section. The science portion only has 30 questions per section, compared to the other subjects have 55 questions per section. I’m hoping the science section isn’t too difficult, but atleast it’s doesn’t have the most amount of questions.

Sorry for all the questions I take the HESI Sunday and I’m so nervous. How did you feel about the science sections? That’s what I’m most worried about especially the chem section

Hi Taylor,

As far as the HESI, I have no science background. I began this process in hopes of a new career. The sciences for me were very challenging. I studied from the review book and bought a HESI book from Barnes and Nobles that contain sample exams.

The way I looked at it was … You only need a 73 or higher on the test. Once I had this in my head it took my anxiety away. Good luck on the exam. You’ll do good.

Super Excited to have been accepted to Chamberlain Nursing for the Fall Term.

Congrats on your acceptance! Are you doing the day or weekend/evening program? And have you registered for your courses yet? I'm trying to connect with others at the same stage as me!
