Chamberlain College- Phoenix

Published

hi everyone! i just discovered chamberlain college of nursing in phx,az and it seems like a pretty smooth entrance and acceptance process but i have a question. if your act/sat scores are good enough and above what they say the minimum is required, do you still have to take any sort of entrance test to get into the school? i read some about the a-2 test but i did not know if you have to take it if your sat scores are fine?... your information and advice is appreciated! thanks so much in advance!

Has anyone heard of Fortis college? New to Phoenix

Thanks

Hi, I'm not sure if the school is new but it doesn't appear to be accredited by AZ BON?

I see they have an ADN program....

I wouldn't attend a school that isn't accredited! It'd be a waste of money and time!

Hey Nicolemsm! I'm applying for the october semester. If I were you I would do all the pre-reqs that I can do at a community college because it will be a lot cheeper. I have gone through 2 years of college so I have all of the first year for Chamberlains classes done. And I really like Chamberlain, so I really hope I get in!!

Fortis is actually trying to get approval as on a PN program we speak. Theya rent releasing any info to the public so if you call the school they will take your name and number only. It's a private college(technical) so most likely the tuition will be astronomical! With the other LPN programs in valley, I just dont see why anyone would choose theirs. Im speaking ahead of the game, as I dont know how much they will charge, but if they are anyting like the other trade schools in the valley you can expect high tuition!

Eventually Chamberlain will be well known and be hard to get in, so if I were Nicolemsm, I would get in now. Then at least you'll be IN the nursing program and can still finish up whatever pre-reqs you need. This way, you won't have to worry about being accepted later. It's been almost a month since I started there and I just don't understand why anyone won't go there! Chamberlain is AWESOME! There were about half my Success Seminar class of students that actually left other nursing programs, including ASU, NAU, and GCU, to attend Chamberlain. Now, THAT's an awesome school!!!

I can't be sure, but I would assume that as Chamberlain grows and more people apply, the average GPA and test score will increase. Chamberlain accepts the top 50 people that apply, and my advisor told me that 80-100 people apply each semester. If more people start applying, then there is a larger pool of applicants to choose from. Chamberlain is like any other program that takes the top GPA and test scores. If a 3.0 GPA was good last semester, it may not be good this semester because so many more people have applied that have above a 3.0. I would guess that if your application that has been put on "hold" you have lower GPA's and test scores than the other applicants so Chamberlain is not yet ready to make a decision. At least the files put on hold were not declined! My advisor told me that the average GPA is around a 3.2, and average Hesi test score is at least an 85%. She did tell me that more files are being put on hold than previous semesters because the acceptance committee is starting to see the averages (GPA and test scores) from previous semesters and take those into account. They have to make a decision on your application at some point so be patient...at least that is what I'm telling myself if my file is put on hold. I hope I'm accepted!

Hi! :specs: I have not seen any posts recently from anyone currently enrolled at Chamberlain College of Nursing (in Arizona). Are those of you enrolled still happy with the program? How difficult is the College Algebra course offered there? Are the math courses only 8 weeks long as well? What has been the most difficult class/subject for you at Chamberlain (RN-BSN) so far?

You havn't heard from anyone because we are busy busy with classes! ;-) Just joking. I really like the program so far. I've been going since July starting in the first session. I'm now in the second session. The college algebra is a hybrid class so all of the assignments have 1 due date. I am enrolled in it right now. It is 8 weeks and is offered online. You have the option of taking it at the campus but it is still online and you just set in a computer lab and there is a "teacher" in there that helps you if you need anything. I suggest not doing this. Even the counselors suggest you just take it at home because if you decided to do it at campus you HAVE to show up. Everyone I know who is taking it online at campus really regrets it and says its not worth the gas and time to come to campus when you can just do it on your computer at home. I'm not in the RN-BSN program. The only classes I have had so far for the BSN program is the Anatomy, Culture & Diversity which is really Sociology, Algera (currently taking) and success seminar which is really a waste. You learn to "listen" and "study". You have to take it. They are trying to turn that class into something worthwhile. So it may be different for the upcoming classes.

I agree with Chica17... We haven't posted anything because we are so busy with homework and studying! I have not taken a math course here since I have already taken that many years ago. I just started in July, also, but I started in the third block of the first year, so my clinicals start next semester. I would say the toughest course at the moment is the Health and Wellness course (the first required nursing course). It's basically just reading and understanding how medicine came about, but you have to make sure you understand it and pass those tests since you MUST get at least a 76% or above. Luckily, for me, I have been getting A's on all my tests. So far, I am pulling straight A's. Just to clarify, the Culture Diversity course is NOT Sociology. I have taken both of them as they are BOTH required. They are similar, but not the same course. Now... This semester, I feel is a relatively easy one compared to what I've heard about next semester (which is the fundamentals of Nursing, Pathophysiology, etc..... and clinicals start, also). MUST have critical thinking skills for my next block (luckily for me, I am an extremely analytical and visual person.... One of my many strengths.)

As far as homework goes.... Not to scare you, but let me give you a run down on what's on my plate right now. I have a research paper outline due this Sunday (for my online course), a huge lab due on Monday, a huge test to study for on Monday, an essay that was just due this past Thursday and another essay due this next Thursday, a Nursing exam due on Friday, a Presentation to have all the research done by Friday, and another essay due next Sunday. And that was just for this week! AND.... I have two young children!

So, before starting this program, I used to encourage people to go to nursing school if they feel they want to do nursing.... but now? I tell people that if your Heart is NOT set on it or you are not really sure whether you can handle this or not.... Or you just aren't devoted enough or have the time to put into it.... Then DO NOT PURSUE IT! Because it is EXTREMELY tough and Time Management is NECESSITY! I would hate to see people start it and then have to quit because they couldn't handle it for whatever reason and then have to owe back student loans for something they never finished. In my first session... there were about 20% of the class had withdrawn or dropped out... My feelings were that they just felt it was too much for them. Nursing school is TOUGH! This is not a career you just go into because someone else wants you to be a nurse. This has to be something YOU want! If nursing is what you truly want, then I HIGHLY recommend Chamberlain College of Nursing!

You are right. Culture and Diversity is not Sociology. I was just meaning basically it is because the book that is for the class is a Sociology book but you will take a separate class that is the actually Sociology class. :-)

Thank you Chica17 and MystyqueOne, for the information. Wow, 20% withdrew or dropped... that's a bummer. I like everything I've heard about Chamberlain. The only thing that makes me hesitate is the "accelerated" and "no summers off" part of it all. I'm not sure if I can get myself organized enough to succeed! And that freaks me out. I have little ones at home too, and sometimes no matter how well I think I've done with my time management, unforeseen things occur that make everything run amuck. "Any who," thanks again for taking time out of your super busy schedules, and good luck!:D

I have a question about the scheduling. Is it flexible or is it fixed? I have the majority of Pre-requisites finished from other schools. The rest are scattered between quarters. Do I have to wait for Chamberlain to hold those classes on their schedule?
