  1. I work as a sitter PRN and it is only $8.75 )= I can't remember if night shift pays more though!
  2. At my nursing school, all of our general education classes are through Devry University. I'm pretty sure the pathophysiology class has the option of taking it online or at campus. Hope that helps! :)
  3. I am in a BSN program and my first semester we had to take an intro nursing course. The focus of it was mainly studying skills and helping you adjust to nursing school. The test questions are different. It is just not a definition of words. It is knowing what something is and how to apply it...It was an easy course. We talked about the different opportunities in nursing, study methods, test strategies, etc. Good luck! Happy Memorial Weekend :redpinkhe:redpinkhe
  4. This has happened to me too. I was just adjusting the sheets and laid the pillow at the end of the bed when the patient told me the pillow was hurting their foot. I'm sure it is very sensitive and uncomfortable and can imagine how the pillow may feel heavy so :) yea lol don't worry about it! Just be cautious and lay pillows in a chair or something!! :)
  5. At my work Hospice does the showers. We have a book at the nurse's station that has a log of what date and time hospice came in although I cannot vow how accurate it is. Its one of those things that you'll just have to ask, but if they are Hospice then I wouldn't think you would do the shower unless for some reason hospice didn't come in or was not planning on coming in. (:
  6. How is the program set up? Are you entering it with an LPN or 2 year RN? I don't understand how you can get a BSN in a year? How are you getting your pre-reqs done and stuff like that? I'm in a program that gets you your BSN starting with nothing in 3 years. Thats the fastest program I've seen and it goes FAST. You are basically doing chapters in a week. Like, when I was even doing pre-reqs and was in Anatomy we would do a whole body system in a week...its kind of impossible to learn anything extra, you just stick with what you have to learn..like whats on the objectives..
  7. OK I feel dumb for asking this question but I just kind of like to know the "why" of things. I'm a nursing student and work as a CNA. I was taking a pt's blood pressure manually & noticed the absence and random heart beats, like I would hear the heart beat..then random silence..then a beat here and there, the needle jumping.. so when I told the nurse she said the pt has A-fib so I was like OK I understand that, he has an irregular heart beat, but I had taken the blood pressure a few times and got pretty different readings each time for the systolic number. I don't know if it is just because it was my first time taking a bp with someone who has a-fib or flutter so I was having a difficult time reading the bp or is patient's with a-fib still suppose to have a steady bp? I guess my question is, how are you suppose to take a good bp reading with someone who has this condition? Are the readings different each time or should the bp genereally be the same? :redbeathe:redbeathe:D Thanks!!
  8. Funny. Look who is being sensitive. I think in life many people say things you don't like, not just in the "nursing world" and if you would read other post maybe she is so knowledgeable on everything because she GOES to the school. I'm just sick of people being rude. And by the way, I go to school with her and no she does not work there and so what if she did??! You made a comment and I commented back. Take it the way you want, and hopefully not so "personal" this time.
  9. I seen this in another thread when someone was being nice answering questions about a school, they started accusing them of working for the school. Someone can be nice and answer a question or it can go unanswered and I think everyone who is having their questions answered are appreciative. But then when 1 person is answering they start getting accused of working there. Pathetic.
  10. Yes it is expensive, just like ASU and all other colleges and universities in the world. I know some people in my classes who don't have financial aid but I have loans I have taken out to help cover my tuition and books and living expenses. If you have a job you can go ahead and start making small payments back to your loans but if you don't want to you have 6 months after you graduate to pay back loans.
  11. You are right. Culture and Diversity is not Sociology. I was just meaning basically it is because the book that is for the class is a Sociology book but you will take a separate class that is the actually Sociology class. :-)
  12. i really like the program so far. been going since july. i would reccommend it. the classes are very nurse-oriented. anatomy teaches you just not anatomy but specifically what is important for a nurse. i choose this college because since it is so new in phoenix there was no waiting list and still is not. they only take 50 students though. some of the students there have actually been denied from the asu nursing program. they applied multiple times with 4.0 gpas for asu nursing program and were turned down because asu is turning away in-state students with 4.0s for out-of-state students with lower gpas for the out-of-state tuition. just to make more money. so that is why many students are going here rather then big name colleges. i have no clue what the job market in az thinks about chamberlain because they have no graduates yet. they just opened last year. don't know if that has to do with why they weren't able to provide you with that info. as for other states, i havn't researched. i personally don't care. just as long as i have my bsn. that is all that matters to me because i will be able to find a job. if not in az, in other states :) sorry for the post being so blah! i'm in a state of ready to fall asleep but can't so not feeling very "emotional or up-beat." lol.
  13. You havn't heard from anyone because we are busy busy with classes! ;-) Just joking. I really like the program so far. I've been going since July starting in the first session. I'm now in the second session. The college algebra is a hybrid class so all of the assignments have 1 due date. I am enrolled in it right now. It is 8 weeks and is offered online. You have the option of taking it at the campus but it is still online and you just set in a computer lab and there is a "teacher" in there that helps you if you need anything. I suggest not doing this. Even the counselors suggest you just take it at home because if you decided to do it at campus you HAVE to show up. Everyone I know who is taking it online at campus really regrets it and says its not worth the gas and time to come to campus when you can just do it on your computer at home. I'm not in the RN-BSN program. The only classes I have had so far for the BSN program is the Anatomy, Culture & Diversity which is really Sociology, Algera (currently taking) and success seminar which is really a waste. You learn to "listen" and "study". You have to take it. They are trying to turn that class into something worthwhile. So it may be different for the upcoming classes.
  14. Hi everyone, I am researching Nurse to patient ratios for a project I must do in one of my college classes The sections are current National assessment, Legislative movements in other states, then Arizona legislative movement. I can easily find information on the issue nationally, I will pull information about the current bills being proposed to the House for the legislative movements in other states, but I am having the hardest time pulling up information for Arizona! I cannot find much information on nurse to patient ratio specifically for the state of Arizona, like facts about what the ratio is and the issue here. Does anyone know any good articles or places to get information??! All help is appreciated!! Much love!:heartbeat:heartbeat
  15. hey, also i start in the july bsn program & was wondering if ny1 lives in the happy valley area maybe wanna car-pool like every other week or sumthing?? lol i'm only going 2 days a week until sept. but wanna save $ on gas as much as possible!! :rckn:
