  1. Put on your big girl panties and do your time. Accept the fact that you are going to have to put in six months at a LTC facility. Don't put it off. Six months will fly by while you are busy working. On the other hand, if you spend those six months searching for work and getting nowhere, the days will drag. You will be broke and still not have any experience. Don't delay. Pay your dues.
  2. If I am answering another hall's lights, who is answering my hall's lights? NO ONE. Therefore, I don't do it. We have two aides per hall. One aide SHOULD be working the hall at all times. My partner and I make sure our hall is covered. Not so on the other halls. Both aides will go sit out behind the building and ignore lights. If it gets bad enough the hall nurse will come on the intercom and page them back to the hall. Ridiculous!
  3. 1. I am a kind, patient, cheerful person, and I wanted a job that requires that. 2. I need to support myself, and this is a job I could jump into with no experience. I get to work at least 40 hours a week. 3. I get so much satisfaction out of caring for others. 4. I can "check out" nursing and see if it is for me.
  4. What?! You are able to take a lunch break!
  5. 8 months pregnant.....will they find out
  6. I know it is not for me because I have to be VERY active on the job, but I was wondering, how does one become a med aide? Would you do it and why?
  7. Some family members at my nursing home are looking to hire private sitters. They want their loved ones to have company. I know that sitting is not for me because I have to be up and moving. I need lots of exercise. Also, I think I would get burnt out and grouchy if I was with one resident for ten hours. Also, this brings up some questions... 1. Wouldn't coworkers be ******? How would they feel about busting their asses while one aide is sitting with a resident? 2. Wouldn't this be a conflict of interests? Will the aide give this resident more attention when she is working the hall in order to keep her sitting position? 3. Our home has a written policy against private sitting for residents. Will it be enforced? I am curious... 4. What is your homes policy regarding private sitting? 5. Would you do it?
  8. Don't skimp on your shoes!! Your feet make your living, treat them with tender loving care. My mom was a CNA who always wore inexpensive shoes. She is now disabled due to back and leg problems. I am 5 ft 3 and weigh 280 pounds. I wear Nike Shox or Nike Air Max, and my feet NEVER hurt. Sometimes they do get soggy though. I am going to start changing socks after I finish my showers. If only my Nikes were non skid they would be perfect. I have slipped on wet floors several times. I think the Shox grip better than the Air Max. However, the Shox are hard to clean up when....well, you know. I ALWAYS keep an extra set of scrubs in my car. You never know. Last week I was giving a shower and dropped the soap. I bent over to pick it up and I heard RIP . I told my hall nurse that I had a wardrobe malfunction and ran out the door. She was glad that I did not have to go home to change. I just went out to the car and grabbed another set. You had better believe that I put another "emergency set" in my car as soon as I got home that night. I am saving up for another pair of Nikes. I need some emergency shoes also!
  9. You know you are a CNA when you have given seven showers, got 13 residents up, dressed, fed, and back down, answered a multitude of call lights, cleaned up explosive poop and projectile vomit, finished last round, and then leave work saying,"It was an easy night. I'm not tired. I think I'll go to WalMart."
  10. Schools that cost 500 dollars usually do not include books and supplies. I called one of them and the receptionist was rude and spoke poorly. Also, a two week course means fewer trips if you have to commute. I looked into another class that was cheaper but I would have had to drive two nights a week for three months. The gas money adds up!
  11. Please explain what these are. I understand thickened liquids but what are the other two?
  12. Putting lotion on hairy legs. Yikes!
  13. How would one go about removing the side of a wheelchair, and how time consuming is it to do? I am not very handy.
  14. We are so proud of you. Are you enjoying your CNA job? Are you getting many hours?
