In my state if you go through a cc you have to have you hs deploma, if u doit private you dont. But i have seen that more and more LTC will not hire with out a hs deplpoma.

It depends on on your LTC. I know with mine we have set work schedules IE. 6-2, 2-10, 10-7 and you have to work every other weekend and holiday. The only people that have a flexible work schedule is our on call dept because they sign up for their shifts. BUT like i say it depends on your LTC so i would check with the care center

When your door bell rings you look down your hall to find a call light. When your at the store and see an old lady fall you run over to help her while yelling for the nurse When you go to your friends apartment and you knock on the door and open while saying " Hi i'm jenny and i'll be your aid today" Your favorite dream is the one where you leave a mess at a residents's bedside and tell a nurse to clean it up. You've told a confused patient that your name was that of your coworker and to holler if they need help...lol. You believe that unspeakable evils will befall you if the phrase, "wow, it is really quiet" is uttered. You are the only one at the dinner table NOT allowed to talk about your day at work You would like to meet the inventor of the call light some night in a dark alley. You have seen more moons than the Hubbell telescope

At my LTC a lot of the times the family goes with them, For those who don't go with their familys they get the metro mobility bus to the doc and its up the resident if they want an aid, and which aid they want. It's always the one who works with them all the time. Then the DON puts the shift up on the sign up for the on call workers

I have a friend whose patient failed hers because she put the bedpan on the wrong way because she let the test admin build up her head and then wasn't watching what she was doing and put it on wrong. and the funny thing is the test admin asked her if she wanted to double check something.

I don't do it. I look at it like this, where was you at when i need help doing something? I have my own duties that i have to get done with out worrying about what the next aid has going one.. If you wasn't too busy "hanging" around the nurses stand gossiping for half your shift then you wouldn't behind and need help.

I am so sick and tired of going to work and having to change and toliet all of my Residents because the shift before me was in too much of a rush to get out of work on time. (God forbid you do any work while you are at work). I am tired of having to pay out of my own damn pocket when we hardly get paid at all to buy some decent Shampoo and conditioner for my Residents the home wants to be cheap and buy that all in one crap that never works or drys out the skin and scalp. I am tired of watching my Resident freeze in the shower while i have someone run around to find the nurse cuz the home is too cheep to invest in bath blankets. I want a dang hoyer lift that actually works and i don't have to run around the home to find another to come back and find that all the other aids have ran into rooms or are magicly busy. I want co-workers who actually works and helps you when you need help cuz when they need help they come to find you and you say no or your too busy they throw a fit like a child. I think it's sad that the residents pay so much money to stay in these homes to recieve proper care, but never receve it because the home wants to be cheep and spend the money to over pay the head honco's while the worker bee's bust they butts for nothing. All i ask for is to be able to give my residents the care and services that they pay soo much money for. Ok thats my rant for the week.

As I doing care's for one of my resident she asked me Why I became a CNA and i told her The reason why I became a CNA is because I saw how my grandmother was cared for in a LTC and i want to give my residents the up most care that they deserve and that they are well cared for. What are the reasons why you became a CNA?

1. As a nurse Tech you are also doing work with phlebotomy and EkG's along wiht your normal patient care. 2. It varys from state to state. Some states you make more and others you make less. From what i've heard from friends its only like a dollor or two more. 3. Again the job market varys from state to state. I were I live they have a better market then CNA's do but thats because hospitals been pushing out CNA's and replaceing them with MA's cuz they can do more than CNA's 4. As for nursing school, All the colleges in the state that i live requires you to take the CNA course and a prereq so really it would be better for him just to go to nursing school get his CNA and work as one because it helps open more doors. From what i have heard from friends who are MA's their job is just a dead end. But also the MA's can also get jobs as a LPN up here.

Considering the circumstances i just had to giggle at this. One day as i was running around to get the supplies for one of my residents who was coding, his wife stops me as I head back to the room and says " Ohh He's just faking, he's been talking about finding some way out of this hell hole. Just slap hard a few times and he will wake up" I just didn't know what to say

I commend you for what you did, I know i would have done the same thing. I think that it's so stupied that we as cna's are the ones who are always there with a resident, we know more about that resident then anyother staff that works at the ltc. hell you could go as far as we get attached to our residents because we spend so much time with them. But when the resident codes we have so sit on the sidelines while the nurse's are too busy gossiping about who knows what and will get to you when they decide to. ( I mean it's not like we sit in the hallways or in a residents room yelling NURSE at the top of our lungs for **** and giggles). At the LTC that i work at we are allowed to do just that ASSIST, the nursing team, which is alway run and get this this and this and while your out there getting said things can you stop and call for the ambulancetoo if you get a chance.

They don't let you guys know if you pass that day?

I was looking through one of my old class text books and came accross this and thought it would be cute to post. As I enter into my place of calling, I ask for strenght as I help those in needing. Hide my tears for the sick and aging, And let my smile be the hope they're seeking. Guide my hands as they do for them the things they cannot do, And we take for granted. Allow my eyes to see those things that make my stay with them a blessing. Provide the words i need to speak To let them know I love them so. As I do my work throughtout the day It is for my residents that i stay, And for my residents that I pray.

Where I live our HHA's have to be certified. they make about the same if not more than cna but thats because they get remiberesed for gas.

Really, I've been told that it depends on what floor you work on. But I've been told that its almost the same as working in LTC but you are able to do more things. As far as sope of practice being in a hospital, We were told in class that in the state I'm in if a nurse delegate's the to the aid and the aid has been taught that skill that they can do it but the RN's lic is on the line if something happens.
