Where I live the nursing school at the JC has been cut down to 60 applicants accepted a year with 400 applicants... ive basically given up hope. I found a LPN school (unitek) 3 hours away where my husbands parents live and i could live with them rent free while i complete it for 11 months. Ive already been accepted but said I would have to think about it... only issue is, when i graduate i would have a 25,000 loan to pay off (we already calculated everything with interest. this 25k is after financial aid and the small downpayment we would make before)...my husband and i are thinking it would be worth it , because i would be an lpn IN A YEAR and making a decent salary and could probably pay it off in 2 years then go for my RN. i am definitely sick and tired of being a CNA... if i stay here, i have 2 years left of pre - reqs (i have to retake my science classes that i have B's in because B's arent good enough here) then theres a chance i still might not be accepted here. so basically if i dont go to unitek and stay here it could be 4, 5, years until i get to be a nurse... so my first question is, what are your guys opinions??? my husband and i go back and forth and not sure what to do. like i said, only issue here is having a 25,000 loan. but i guess a lot of students with good educations have large loans. second question is, anyone familiar with Unitek??? If I want to apply to my university's nursing program in Spring 2012, I have to take these class in the fall to apply in time: Basic Chemistry class (2 nights a week) Microbiology (2 nights a week) then online I have these classes: a nursing class (a pre requisite where you learn the mathematical equations you use when nursing) a womens studies class and a core humanities class I also work full time Mon-Fri during the day. When I took A&P1, worked full time and had 2 other online classes I got an A- in A&P, and A's in the online classes. Last semester I took A&P2 and 2 online classes and got a B in A&P and A's in the other online classes. I'm not worried about the online classes, for some reason those come easy to me and usually easy A's. SO I'm just worried about microbiology and chemistry... I have to do these classes all this fall if I want to apply in the spring!!! and I dont want to wait another year!! Do you think its possible if I'm motivated enough??? Has anyone else been in this situation???

It took me a few years to do pre-reqs too. Still have two semesters left. As for your pre-calc grade, I know my college here lets you re take any class you want and then your new grade replaces the old grade (the old one still stays on your transcript but does not apply to your GPA. Only the new grade applies to your GPA).

yep it is easy to get taken advantage of both by the agency and families. Clients expect you to clean their homes too which sucks (at least a lot of them in my experience). They complained if I didn't. And my client coordinator gave me all the HARD clients (the pain in the butts, or disgusting homes that were biological hazards). I thought that all the clients must be like that. And I didn't complain because I wanted the hours. But then when I quit, she told me "This is going to be hard to get all your shifts covered. You had all the clients that everybody else refuses to see". Man was i mad

I now work at LTC but used to work for a home health agency - for 8 months. Each client I saw I would only see for 1-2 hours. So I felt like I was doing a LOT of driving - I had to fight to get paid for mileage but after a few months they started paying me 30 cents a mile, but only when i drove client to client. In order to get my 40 hours, I worked 7 days a week. I had a client 7 mornings a week, and another 7 nights a week ... so I never slept in ... and then of course appointments all throughout the day. crazy schedule. I am a lot happier now working just a straight 8 hour shift then being done. and i am saving sooo much gas and miles on my car! Oh and some families and clients were very nice and appreciative of me. But then again .... I had a client who had 6 hours a week (paid by medicaid). she started to take advantage of me and I would sometimes work for her a little over 6 hours. I told her I couldn't do that any more, and I only had time for her 6 hours, not anything more (I wasnt getting paid for more than 6 hours). She got upset, called my agency, told them I wasnt working for her AT ALL and must have been forging her signature, etc. I got suspended for a week (UNPAID) until they figured out that she was the crazy liar, not me. They transferred her to another agency. She still kept calling for WEEKS making up more stories about me stealing, and then physical abuse... I even had to go to the police station to file a report... twice... So personally I dont like working for agencies!

just got my cna license so i have no "cna" experience but i have been a "pca" for the last 8 months. one house I work at, I take care of 6 disabled kids at a time, so I'm confident I could work in a nursing home, but I'm kinda worried I may not get the job because nursing homes want people with "cna experience".... also I was wondering usually Im in scrubs all day (i do home care so Im driving around all day) ... I was thinking I should probably change into a nice top and slacks, or should i stay in my scrubs (so they see I am clean and neat in scrubs when Im working too) lol. if anyone has tips on what to say in the interview too let me know!! i want the job soooo bad!

one of my patients asked me "are you going out on a date tonight?" and I told her no, I already have a boyfriend, and we just stay at home. she said "good! because when you go out on dates, you get raped, and you get diseases!"

I'm taking my CNA skills exam again on Saturday and am really nervous again. My first time taking the skills exam I did everything perfect, EXCEPT for when brushing the person's teeth I only raised the head of the bed 50 degrees, not 60! and I asked how do you guys measure the degrees? and they only do it by sight. I got really easy skills too (brushing teeth, ROM, and weight). Now I'm nervous I'll get hard skills ... I'm horrible at blood pressure ... I was wondering what are some stuff other people have failed the test for?? this way I will know what not to do too .
