Anyone with small children?
My facility has been very generous with me. I work mon, wed, and thursday during the day and tuesday at night and various hours on the weekend. this way, my kids are only in daycare three days a week. Plus it helps that my parents help to watch the kids quite often. But I feel that they are with our family more than they are at daycare. My situation is slightly complicated by the fact that I am pregnant (found out the day before I took the job) and so I will have a newborn in daycare 3 days a week also. This is a little harder for me to accept, but I think we will be able to make it work. It helps that I feel so supported by my work and my family and that I really like my daycare provider. Plus, my facility likes that I am there on those 'odd' hours to keep an eye on things. I am there when there isn't other leadership around. And it is much easier to get work done when others aren't around!! good luck! I hope you can find a way for this to work out for you!!

DON and filling in for staff
My facility does not want one of it's highest paid people passing meds. They pay me a lot of money, and would like me to be doing my work, not other peoples work. They would rather pay an agency, but it does not happen very often.

How do you charge for extra services in HFA?
I am a new DON and one of my jobs is to revamp how we charge for additional services provided in our HFA end. I would appreciate any ideas. (We are a private pay facility and we do not accept Medicare/Medicaide) Right now it is incrediable subjective. The thinks we charge extra for currently are frequent insulin injections, frequent caths, frequent toileting assistance, intervention for behavior difficulties. We figured that basic services were basic housekeeping, meals, normal med passes etc. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks laura

making bathing experiences better
what do you do to make the bathing experience for residents better. We have quite a few who scream and cry through the whole thing. We also have a gentleman who is very modest and we often have to bath in his underwear. Any suggestions?

Crying........
don't worry. the smartest people in my nursing classes failed the nursing boards. It also does not at all reflect what kind of an aide you will be. The fact that you are so upset about it says more about you not passing, than if you had passed it anyway. A concerned, conciencious person is much better than one that does not care.

You know you are a CNA when....
I am a DON at a nursing home and I am going to be putting together a power point presentation for my CNA's. I really wanted to start out with something fun to help them realize how much they are appreciated. I was looking for something fun like "you know you are a CNA when..." but I couldn't find anything. Can you help me out? Thanks Laura
