hi everyone! i just discovered chamberlain college of nursing in phx,az and it seems like a pretty smooth entrance and acceptance process but i have a question. if your act/sat scores are good enough and above what they say the minimum is required, do you still have to take any sort of entrance test to get into the school? i read some about the a-2 test but i did not know if you have to take it if your sat scores are fine?... your information and advice is appreciated! thanks so much in advance!

I was in the morning class. They let about 5 or 6 other students do that because we have all of our general education credits done, meaning we had no other classes to take but just the NR222, and it's all about money so they put us in all they could!

That's awesome that they let you do that! I took 17 credit hours last semester. This first session that we just complete wasn't that difficult. I was thinking of possibly picking up an online class. History? for this next session, but then I also start the Clinicals, so I'm wondering if this next session, I will be too busy for the online course. Hmmm.... What do you think? Now would be a good time. I only have three more GE classes to take for the rest of my program, including Nutrition. Did you find your second session,(the first session of clinicals) difficult compared to your first session? Do you think adding another GE class would be that much more time consuming?

Thanks.

I think if you are gonna take a gen ed one do it now, however I wouldn't only because it's your first clinical and it might be stressful until you get the hang of it. Are you going to be in assessment and 226 AND patho? or are you gonna take only 2 classes in session B, if that's the case then yeah you can take another class like history or socs. whatever you do I'm sure you'll do just fine :)

Actually, yes, I am taking all three classes simultaneously. I've taken many credit hours before, and aced all the classes. I can also understand with the clinicals taking up more of my time and getting adjusted. I am currently a CNA, so I have a pretty good idea on what to expect. I'll just wait and keep my load as light as possible. Thanks!

Hey! I'm glad that I found this thread. I'm just about to finish my first year at Chamberlain. I begin my core nursing courses next semester. Honestly, I'm looking for some reassurance. I've done mostly gen-eds up to this point, and I'm hoping my impression of this school improves when I begin clinicals. The students I've been grouped with have already started cliques, and I'm worried this will affect my clinical experience. How are the clinical groups arranged?

I'm also wanting to become more involved in the school... any tips?

Shleep,

Try posting in the Arizona Nursing Programs section. The following Chamberlain thread is a little more active and recent:

You might find more answers there.

I agree with Chica17... We haven't posted anything because we are so busy with homework and studying! I have not taken a math course here since I have already taken that many years ago. I just started in July, also, but I started in the third block of the first year, so my clinicals start next semester. I would say the toughest course at the moment is the Health and Wellness course (the first required nursing course). It's basically just reading and understanding how medicine came about, but you have to make sure you understand it and pass those tests since you MUST get at least a 76% or above. Luckily, for me, I have been getting A's on all my tests. So far, I am pulling straight A's. Just to clarify, the Culture Diversity course is NOT Sociology. I have taken both of them as they are BOTH required. They are similar, but not the same course. Now... This semester, I feel is a relatively easy one compared to what I've heard about next semester (which is the fundamentals of Nursing, Pathophysiology, etc..... and clinicals start, also). MUST have critical thinking skills for my next block (luckily for me, I am an extremely analytical and visual person.... One of my many strengths.)

As far as homework goes.... Not to scare you, but let me give you a run down on what's on my plate right now. I have a research paper outline due this Sunday (for my online course), a huge lab due on Monday, a huge test to study for on Monday, an essay that was just due this past Thursday and another essay due this next Thursday, a Nursing exam due on Friday, a Presentation to have all the research done by Friday, and another essay due next Sunday. And that was just for this week! AND.... I have two young children!

So, before starting this program, I used to encourage people to go to nursing school if they feel they want to do nursing.... but now? I tell people that if your Heart is NOT set on it or you are not really sure whether you can handle this or not.... Or you just aren't devoted enough or have the time to put into it.... Then DO NOT PURSUE IT! Because it is EXTREMELY tough and Time Management is NECESSITY! I would hate to see people start it and then have to quit because they couldn't handle it for whatever reason and then have to owe back student loans for something they never finished. In my first session... there were about 20% of the class had withdrawn or dropped out... My feelings were that they just felt it was too much for them. Nursing school is TOUGH! This is not a career you just go into because someone else wants you to be a nurse. This has to be something YOU want! If nursing is what you truly want, then I HIGHLY recommend Chamberlain College of Nursing!

Hi,

Thank you for all the great information! I am also interested in their BSN progarm and am applying for the Feb 28, 2011 start! I just have a couple questions....Do you have to give a lot of presentations in front of the class?? I get severe anxiety with this :(....I know they require interpersonal communications but not public speaking. Just want to clarify because you mentioned presentations. Also did you take the statistics at Chamberlain....if so how was it? Thanks again for all help!!! :)

In your first session at Chamberlain, you will have Success Seminar. When I took it, we were required to give a group presentation, but it was not bad at all. I used to be TERRIFIED of public speaking, but have relaxed quite a bit. The interpersonal communications class is a speech class, but it's not as intimidating as it sounds. The instructor I had (James Bernard) was just incredible and he creates a supportive environment for his students. I took Statistics (online) through DeVry/Chamberlain. The first week is very overwhelming, but there are many resources available to you (at least online there is!). I got a strong A in that class.

I wouldn't worry too much about the public speaking issue. The students you'll encounter will become very familiar to you, over time, and it doesn't seem formal at all when speaking in front of them.

Hi Shleep,

Thank you for your words of encouragment :)! So is that the only time you had to get up and speak (at the success seminar)? Or did you have to do it all through out the program, if so was it in a group or on your own? I am not worrind about interpersonal communications because I am taking that in a couple weeks also with a great teacher. Thanks again for all your help!! Have a great day!! :)

I've taken about 15 classes at Chamberlain, so far, and have only given speeches/presentations in 5 of them. Many of them have been group oriented, but there have been a few solo presentations. Those were in A&P and Speech.
