I apologize if my response offended you in any type of way. That was not at all my intention. What I was saying is that college is not a one size fits all type of thing which you know I’m sure. Even for myself, I have never performed well in community college classes until about last year. I had to figure out the system and it took me forever. My learning style and the general / popular teaching style clash and I find it hard to enjoy and thrive in certain learning environments; especially if it’s not hands on. I also have a curious and inquisitive personality and that can annoy some teachers but I personally don’t care that it does. I’m there to learn and they’re there to teach. Bottom line. I can’t help if that bothers them that I’m a student that needs a little extra TLC when it comes to my education ?.

I also know I have to put in extra work in office hours or tutoring if a teacher isn’t teaching according to my needs. I’ve had some not so wonderful professors... I’m sure everyone has and if they haven’t, they will. But, it’s all temporary. That’s what everyone needs to keep in mind. Not to get distracted by the negatives in the situation but to find a way to persevere and rise above regardless of the circumstance and stay focused in the goal and not be distracted by the person. Remember, when you get on the floor, you have no clue what type of charge nurse or docs you’ll end up with.. even preceptors. It ultimately comes down to how you choose to view and create your experience.

I hope that your friends’ experiences completely turn around and transform into something enjoyable and exciting for the rest of their time at Chamberlain! I hope their next professor, or professors, are able to change the game and make learning exciting for them! I also hope that the perfect program falls right into your lap and that it will be undeniably the perfect fit when it happens because it will happen.

Sending you tons of well wishes and good luck as you are on the road to becoming a nurse! Rooting for yah!

Dani

Thank you, you are so sweet! I wasn’t offended in any way. It’s hard to interpret emotion in an online setting like this.

I think you will become a wonderful nurse ?

Did any of you guys apply elsewhere besides Chamberlain? I hear bad things about this school from two of my friends. They say the teachers are horrible and you have to learn on your own a lot. AND they make you commute twice per week outside of Sacramento, like Stockton.

I looked into Delta College in Stockton and I’m thinking if Chamberlian is going to make me drive there why not just attend Delta which is so much cheaper. Chamberlain is extremely expensive... and they make you pay the loan 6 months out of school when you might not even have a job yet considering it’s so hard to get one without nursing experience...

Does anyone know how employers look at graduates from private schools? Typically private schools have bad rep....

I have an AS degree from a private school that was accredited but now some colleges/universities will not transfer my classes. I ended up graduating with a 21k loan and no job for years...

. Not sure if waiting to get into locals schools is better for me, I qualify for all schools except Sac State... I’m in my early 30s and have a kid.

I just want to hear some honest thoughts from you guys...

lady2020, 6 months after graduating is pretty standard for paying back loans. You can apply for deferment and put off paying for 12 months, but the interest keeps ticking. As far as I know, employers here don’t look down on private schools. Chamberlain may be new to Sac, but the school itself is over 100 years old. They’re well established. I toured the campus and thought it looked great. Disorganization comes with any newer school and shouldn’t necessarily be a red flag. I’ve heard the “disorganization” complaint about other schools and I think so much of it has to do with shuffling people around for clinical rounds (which are frequently changed or moved last minute) or with teachers (because let’s face it, if they had enough teachers, we wouldn’t have such a hard time getting nurses through school).

i think Chamberlain is reputable and the students I have talked to have said they have enjoyed their time there. Clinical rounds will be spread out. They’re hard to come by for schools. So you take them where you can get them.

Delta College May be a good choice for you if you live near stockton, but I’m guessing if you don’t want to commute there for the 2x/week for the few weeks of clinical rounds, you probably don’t want to commute for school? And you also have to remember that they have an ADN program, not a BSN. It’s apples and oranges. If Sac State is out of the realm of possibilities, and you want a BSN, Private school is your only choice. Chamberlain is for-profit, USF is not-for-profit. Samuel Merritt is not-for-profit but the Sac Campus is only open to people who already have a bachelor’s degree. So the options are somewhat limited. But I can assure you that between all the private schools, Chamberlain is not far off the price tag for the other two.

I hope you’re able to find a way to make it work for you and your family.

Hey guys!! Just wanted to see if anyone has heard from advisors about what the next steps are after accepting our seats and signing the documents. I’m thinking we will hear some thing in Mid May once the summer people have started.

Yes, they will set up a meeting with student services to pick your classes. This should be happening soon.

@EWKstudent_nurse awe bummer! I was going to say which one was you! Haha!

Hey everyone! Hope summer is goin well for all of you!! I’m super excited that we get to start school in just over 6 weeks. My summer classes are almost done ( taking microbiology and ethics)!! I just had a question for those who have been on the student portal..

on degree works it shows that I have 2 classes in progress both of which I provided transcripts and transfer credit that was approved. The classes were physiology and human development. I got A’s in both so I know they are transferable just because I’ve done them at the same school they took my other transfer credits from. I have reached out Via email to someone and they said it should be updated shortly, however that was around a week ago.. anyone else having issues with this? I’m thinking it’s because they are waiting on my summer school transcripts and will update them all at once!
