Chabot, Merritt, Ohlone Fall 2017

Published

Hello Fellow Bay Area Students!

Did anyone apply for Chabot, Merritt, or Ohlone's Fall 2017 term? We should be hearing back from Chabot in about 10 days!

congrats! chabot is a great program. i'm in the ohlone program and from what I hear from a faculty member who taught at chabot and ohlone she said chabot models their program better.

Either program is great! Getting into any nursing program in California is an achievement on its own. I' m currently in the nursing program at Ohlone and sometimes I wish I would have gone to Chabot but I'm closer to Ohlone.

Ohlone really emphasis on preparing you for the nclex so they test like the nclex. Message me if you have any questions!

Congrats to those who got into Ohlone's nursing program. I just finished my first year of nursing school at Ohlone.

The paperwork is definitely confusing and to be honest, Zelma is not the best of help. I would recommend getting your background and vaccinations (especially these because you'll need them regardless of which program you pick).

Typically, you get Monday's off at Ohlone because of faculty meeting days; however, there will be some Mondays you have to be on campus for lab/skills. Just know that lectures are on Tuesday and Wednesdays (and some Mondays).

For all programs you have to be critical thinkers. Being book smart or hospital experienced doesn't determine your experience in nursing school. Some are book-smart but struggle at bedside or vice versa.

Ohlone is revamping their program to include a pharmacology course, separate OB and Pediatric portions and when I started they had changed their testing criteria to reflect the NCLEX.

This may be a little late but disregard the flu shot portion. That is one of the few vaccines they aren't too strict about because flu vaccines are typically available until September or October. If you're lucky and get placed at Washington Hospital for clinicals- they provide flu shots during the season and you can submit a copy of that.

Thank you! You are correct, the woman who distributes the paperwork is not very helpful. Everytime I respond to one of her emails she writes back - "I have no idea what you are talking about but....(insert random info)" I was also nervous because during the info session they had us attend, I couldn't understand the program director, she had such a heavy acent. However, your new info has given me a better idea of what it's like. Thanks for contributing! I will probably reach out to you soon for more info once my paperwork is all submitted and okayed!

Did anyone else hear from Chabot this week about what alternate number they are on? I haven't checked since last Friday because the woman asked me not to check back for a couple of weeks so I'm curious to know.

Im sure they havent reached the number #16 yet (which is me :cheeky: ) . I will update information if they give me a call .

They're on #13 as of Friday! Does anyone know if they call on weekends or holidays?

Sp2017 - May you please update us once u get the call .. the waiting period is torturing me so badly.

Thanks meechemarie for updating us. I don't think they will call on weekends or holidays.

Hey guys,

Catherine just called me a few mins ago. I'm officially accepted into Chabot nursing program now. I wish the best luck to all of you who are still waiting. Hope we will meet in Fall 2017. Btw, you guys may need to look up for the instruction of background check in advance. I have a short time to complete and turn it by next Wed.
